HOUSE FOR AN ARTIST

2nd semesterAcademic year: 2010/2011Location: FlorenceProfessor: Valerio BarberisIndividual work

The project represents the first approach to the architectural design. The aim of this laboratory was to introduce the students to the planning steps, starting with the definition of a concept that guide the developement of the building. My concept is the embrace between nature and man.Following the guidelines of an ideal hug, I created four main blocks. Each one has its own function (living zone, bedrooms, relaxing area) but is ,at the same time, connected to the others by a common perimetral path. This sort of itinerary starts with the entrance to the living block and finds its conclusion in the smallest and central arm, which consists in the creating laboratory of the artist. The house for the artist is sourrounded by and sourrounds nature, which can be perceived by every part of the archiectu-re thanks to the inner court generated by the disposition of the blocks and the use of long glass walls.

NEW WATERFRONT FOR ORSINI SQUARE

4rd semesterAcademic year: 2011/2012Location: Castiglione della Pescaia, TuscanyProfessors: Vincenzo and Paolo di NardoTeam work

The theme of this laboratory was the requalification of a problematic area in a little town by the sea in Tuscany. The visit to the site showed a lack of connections to the beach, bad conditions of the old major house, disor-ganized roads system and the absence of a clear function for the square. However, three strong elements from the environ-ment have been considered important for the developping of the project : the castle, the mountain and the sea. Looking for a way to connect the castle to the sea, I had the idea to define the square from a grid made out of the contour interval and the visual cone from the mountain to the sea. My team mate and I gave the square the role of a market of typical products, shaping the blocks on the suggestions of the “souk” and the dry earth. The old major house have been transformed in a polyvalent building that hosts a cinema on the underground floor, an auditorium with bar and art exposition on the first and second floors and apart-ments on the last levels. The work has been fairly divided betwe-en two and I especially have worked on the graphic representations of master-plan, sections and renderings, as well as in the plans and in the ideation processI gave the imput for the new asset of the square.

INSTITUT FOR MEDIA RESERCH _ NEW PROPOSALFOR TEGELAIRPORT

5th SemesterAcademic year: 2012/2013 Location: BerlinProfessors: Ulrike Lauber, Hans-Chri-stof ErnstTeam work The theme of this laboratory was the re-qualification of the main airport of Berlin, Tegel. In particular, we have been asked to design a building for offices.Since our project area is set between two other sites, we have decided to give the building a “C”shaped plan, elevated for 4 floors over the ground. Different kinds of offices have been employed (single offices, double ones and so on), organi-zed on the sides or between large main corridors that connect the arms of the construction and give to the space a high fluency. In order to obtain as much light as possible, long stripes of glass have been employed in the façades. Two class mates and I have worked on this, and my contribution was particularly in the definition of the plan and in the graphic elaboration of sections and views.

DOMINO TEGEL _NEW PROPOSALFOR TEGELAIRPORT 5th SemesterAcademic year 2012/2013 Professors Ulrike Lauber and Hans-Christof ErnstTeam work On this laboratory we have been asked to find a solution for the urban area of the airport of Tegel, Berlin. The existing airstrips have strongly influenced the project since its beginning. They represent the basic division of the entire area, working as main connection axes for both the new neighborhoods and for the Berlin urban area. Furthermo-re, the existing oblique roads have been extended until the northern green areas and to these two other oblique axes have been added, defining a visual cone from the “constructed part” to the green fields and the lake. A grid 80mx80m have been superimposed over the new asset, defining small neighborhoods that combine different construction types (residential buildings, commercial buildings, industries) and open green spaces reflecting the surrounding vegetation. The area around the distinctive exagon is employed for the “Beuth Hochschule Für Technik”, hosting classrooms, laboratories, canteen, library, offices. For its students we designed residences outside the cam-pus, characterized by rectangular shapes offset from each other, in which solid and empty parts are interchanged. The work have been equally divided in two and I was concerned in both deciding assets and in drawing the masterplan and creating the renderings.

DRAWINGS OFARCHITECTURE

6th SemesterAcademic year 2012/2013 Professor: Gerd SedeliesIndividual work

The aim of this course was to explore the many ways to represent architecture. I have taken this course while I was an exchange student in Berlin and I have found it really interesting and stimulating. The professor used to bring the class outdoors (when possible) to represent every week a different part of the city by using pencil, pen, marker, watercolour and so on.The class was very stimulating and intere-sting. It taught me new ways to represent architecture and any kind of sourrounding as well as inspired me in presenting my projects.

FLORENCEMODEXPOMMXX _PAVILLION FOR PAULINE VAN DONGEN7th SemesterAcademic year 2013/2014 Location: FlorenceProfessors: Claudio de Filippi, Dario BiondoIndividual work

The aim of ths course was to design apavillion for a fashion stylist from the envelop until its interiors, exploring the organic architecture, using 3D modelling softwares. The shapes of the building are born from experimentations with Rhino-ceros (3D software) and its plug-ins and a study of the inspirations of the organic design. My work begins with a suggestion given by the fabric of one of Pauline van Dongen’s creations to which I have associate a voronoi diagram first on 2D and later on 3D. Throughtout a process of sottraction and compositions of volumes, I have arrived to the final disposition of the blocks which represent the architectural cladding. Inside, the disposition of the spaces follow a linear and clear path. On the ground floor, the suggested way goes from the entrance, walks along the stairs and lead to the permanent exhibition ending in the bar/book shop. Back to the central hall, an imposing staircase takes to the first floor where the visitor can have a walk on the temporary exhibitions and assist to a fashion show. Furnitures are part of the project, designed with the same inspira-tions, from the chairs of the bar until the display cabinets.

RESTORATIONOF A CHILDHOODSCHOOL

7th SemesterAcademic year 2013/2014 Location: FlorenceProfessors: Maria Chiara Torricelli, Luca MarziTeam work

The theme of this laboratory was the requalification of the childhood school“Francesco Petrarca”, located in the historical center of Florence. The analysis of the school by visits and digital material showed several critical aspects, such as lack of adequate spaces for the kids, absence of a proper space where to play or do outdoor activities, undersized gym, a part of the building is used by a private kinder garden, obsolete status of floors, walls and roof. Since it is an historical building, my team mate and I decided to keep the simmetrical asset, opening the external courts and closing the inner ones. In doing so, we created new spaces for the kids (multimedia/art laboratories/library) inside as well as a big park in the back yard outside that hosts the new gym. The current main entrance is set in the back yard and has no adequate importance, so we moved it to the center of the building, giving to it a new configuration and strenght. The roof structure has been restored, planning a new system of visible wooden trusses; the walls have been isolated and the courts closed by a mixted wood and glass structure. I have especially collaborated on studying the gym structure, the new asset of the school, the idea of the enclosure of inner courts, digital representation.

MESH _MEDELLÌNEXPERIMENTALSOCIALHOUSINGThesis projectAcademic year 2013/2014 Location: MedellìnProfessor:Leonardo ZaffiCo-rapporteur: Sauro GuarnieriIndividual work

The theme of the project is taken from a competition for students which proposed a contest contest of ideas in the matter of housing. This project revolves around implementing new residential use and reformulating the adjacent publicspaces in a way that includes housing. The chosen location for the project is in “La Candelaria” neighborhood, in the city center. The site’s most evident criticality is the total absence of permeability and it closure towards the sourroundings. Therfore, the first step is eliminate all the existing constructions but the church (important for the community), allowing the site to be passed through by new flows. The second step sees the definition of a new design ,based on these new flows, of the deleted blocks: shops along the street are the basement of the block of the offices to which people can arrive throgh a ramp. The inner space is organized by a 6mx6m grid that creates the modules for the housing (30,60,90 sq m.). The social housing shapes itself on the idea of “self-building”, meaning that a owner is free to buildd its own house using its own tools and materials. The main structures are thought to be in reinfor-ced concrete and wood (enduring in time and easy to set up).
