Program runs from June 1 through August 2. Teens in grades 6-12 may participate. Registration ends July 19.

Join the summer tour! Explore the music of the ages when you sign up for the Teen Summer Reading Program. Get great prizes just for reading. Stop by

the Teen Zone Desk to register and pick up a reading log. Throughout the summer join us for gaming, hands-on workshops, and movie showings. Check out the rest of the newsletter for details and don’t forget to sign up. Here’s how the reading program works:

1. Read 6 hours to complete a level. 2. Bring in your reading log and collect a prize. 3. Enter a weekly drawing to win movie passes

and other goodies. 4. When you finish, enter to win one of three

Grand Prize baskets with books, DVDs, cou-pons and food.

5. Keep reading for more chances in the Grand Prize drawings.

Films will be shown in the Eisenhower Room of the library. Popcorn will be provided by AMC Theaters or bring your own snacks and drinks.

Open to all ages. Children under 12 must come with someone over 13.

Permission required for PG-13 films.

Read It!

Back by popular demand is The High Strung. This band from Detroit is stopping in Broomfield during its second National Rock and Roll Library Tour. Come check out their quirky, energetic Beatlesque jams. Concert-goers will learn what it’s like to tour year-round and as a special con-cert feature, the band will have audience members help them write and improvise a song on the spot. All ages are welcome, so bring the whole family to this special event held at the Broomfield Amphitheater. Thursday, July 3, 7-8:30 p.m. Want a preview? Their CDs Moxie Bravo, These Are the Good Times, and Get the Guests are available at the library or you can check out their website at http://www.thehighstrung.com.

Guitar Hero Tuesday, June 10, 2-4 p.m.

Kick off the Summer Reading Program and strum along with your friends. We have the guitars– you have the skills. Come rock out at the library.

Words to Music Friday, June 20, 2-4 p.m. Do the words come first or the melody? Either way, you can put pen to paper and compose a song out of the tune in your head. Songwriter Mohammed Alidu will show you how.

Karaoke Revolution Friday, June 27, 6-8 p.m. It’s a PS2… it’s a microphone… it’s Library Idol. Bring a friend and your voice to this program where you can sing along with your choice of popular songs.

Hip Hop Dance Thursday, July 17, 3-5 p.m. When you hear that beat do you start to groove? If you bustamove when the bass kicks in, this program is for you. Learn hip hop moves from instructor Hugo Sayles.

Summer Tour: Unplugged Saturday, July 12, 6-8 p.m. Singers, musicians, and dancers are invited to get unplugged at the library. Sign up for this open mic session and get your 5 minutes of fame.

Square Roots Sunday, June 29, 6-8 p.m. Allemande Left and do-si-do! Check out this square dancing program. We’ll have a live caller and a live band. You’ll learn the steps to dance the night away. Program will be held at the Broomfield Auditorium.

You’re A Punk Tuesday, July 8, 2-4 p.m. Ever thought you could pull off a Mohawk? Thought about purple hair? Learn about these and other wonders of punk hairstyles at this hands-on program.

The High Strung Concert Thursday, July 3, 7-8:30 p.m. Bring the whole family to this concert held at the Broomfield Amphitheater. Want a preview? Their CDs are available for checkout at the library. See the article on the previous page for more details.

Totally Tubular Tunes Wednesday, July 23, 2-4 p.m. The clothes, the big hair, the music– what’s not to love about the 80’s? Get into character and bring back the music by making a lip sync music video.

Summer Salsa Tuesday, July 29, 2-4 p.m. Spice up your summer with this afternoon dance class on Salsa and Latin swing. Taught by the Casablanca Dance Studio.

Teen Workshops

Just Didgeridoo-It! Friday, August 1, 2-4 p.m. A didgeri-what? Come make your very own didgeridoo, a wind instrument of the indigenous Australians of northern Australia and learn how to play it. Program will be taught by Michael Stanwood.

Rock Band Showdown Saturday, August 2, 6-9 p.m. Grab a group of friends and see how you stack up at this Rock Band talent show. We’ll provide all of the gaming gear; you provide the talent.

Go 2nd Sundays– June 8, July 13, August 10 2-4 p.m.

Teen Workshops will be held in the Eisenhower Meeting Room. We’ll provide any necessary materials and the programs are free of charge. Registration for Teen Workshops is required.
