WELCOME

It is our pleasure to welcome you to MULCOPIM’11 in Valencia. From the first edition in 1993, the Interna-tional Workshop on Multipactor, Corona and Passive Intermodulation has become a reference meeting forum for researches, designers, test engineers and users of any space high power RF hardware. The intention is to share valuable information on the design and testing of high power RF hardware for the prevention of RF breakdown (Multipactor and Corona) and Passive Intermodulation. Furthermore, it is the aim of the organizing committee to merge these topics coming from space applications with researchers involved in these subjects working in particle accelerators.

This year, and for the second time, MULCOPIM has been organised outside ESTEC. We hope you will enjoy this 7th edition of MULCOPIM as well as the city of Valencia and its wonderful Mediterranean landscapes.

We would like to thank all the people who have contributed with their work in this MULCOPIM edition, especially those who have participated in the technical and the organizing committee. We dedicate a special mention to the institutions that have contributed by sponsoring MULCOPIM’11: Generalitat Valenciana, the City Hall of Valencia, the Science and Innovation Spanish Ministry, FIVEC Foundation, AR, Huber+Suhner, Alava Ingenieros, Radiall, FULTON and Thales Alenia Space. We would like to conclude our welcome message by expressing our thanks to the Technical University of Valencia and the University of Valencia for the availability of their facilities and their sponsorship.

Lecture 3

17:30 Dr. Savvas Kosmopoulos (Space Engineering) Helical Resonator Filters with Improved Power Handling Capabilities for Space Applications

Dr. Savvas Kosmopoulos received his B.A.Sc. (‘78) and his M.A.Sc.(‘81) in Electrical Engineering both from the University of Ottawa, Canada. In 1980 he joined the Bell Northern Research labo-ratories in Ottawa, where he has been involved in research activities on digital communication networking. In 1987 he has awarded the Ph.D. degree (Elect. Engin.) of the University of Thessa-loniki, Greece, where he has been elected Lecturer on October of the same year. From Nov. 1987 to July 1989 he worked as a Post Doctoral researcher in the Laboratory for Electromagnetics and Microwaves, Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Ottawa.

Since 1989 he is with SPACE ENGINEERING s.p.a., Rome, Italy, where he is working as a senior engineer in the RF and Payload group. During these last two decades Dr Kosmopoulos has been actively involved in various ESA projects, dealing with the RF/IF Linear and non-Linear analyses of

several Payload and/or ground segment systems; e.g., the ARTEMIS satellite project, the METEOSAT II Generation system, the COSMO SKYMED system and, recently, the TDP#5 Payload on-board the ALPHASAT spacecraft. These activities, indeed, permited his involvement into the direct design and realization of several related RF, Microwaves and Millimeter-Waves small signals and high power components and subsystems (e.g., frequency converters and filters, diplexers, mul-tiplexers). Finally, to be mentioned that Dr. Kosmopoulos is the author of over 60 technical papers, published in various international refereed journals as well as in the proceedings of many international conferences and that he is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers and the Technical Chamber of Greece.

16,000 Watts of Pure PowerStand back! We’ve exceeded our old limits with thenew 16000A225 amp. It covers 10 kHz to 225 MHzand delivers 16,000 watts of power.

Our New Dual Band AmplifiersBreak Down Old BarriersWith two amplifiers in a single package, you can finally go all theway from 0.8 to 18 GHz with thereliability of solid state.

More Power To YouThey’re smaller and lighter. Yet our new “S” Series amps are available from 0.8 to 4.2 GHz,20 to 1200 watts and everything in between.

All-In-One Fully Integrated Test SystemsGet more done in less time with everything right at your fingertips. Since it’s all provided by AR, you obtain the best accuracy, lowest riskand greatest support in a fullytested system prior to shipping.

Our New EMI Receiver:Amazing Speed, Incredible AccuracyThe CISPR-compliant DER2018 covers 20 Hz to 18 GHz and beyond. It combines sensitivity, dynamic range and speed with a moreintuitive interface.

We’ve Bent The RulesOur family of Radiant Arrow bent element antennas are up to 75% smaller than standard log periodic antennas. Covering 26 MHz to 6 GHz, these antennas produce thenecessary power levels to generate significant E-fields for radiated susceptibility testing.

We’ve Pushed TheTechnology EnvelopeWe ripped that envelope wide open with our small, lightweightSolid State Hybrid Power Modules. They deliver high output power (up to 5 watts) across an ultra-wide instantaneousbandwidth (4 to 18 GHz).

Accuracy, Linearity & Bandwidth.Need We Say More? Our two newest laser-powered E-Field probes,FL7040 – 2 MHz to 40 GHz and FL7060 – 2 MHz to 60 GHz; each do the work ofmultiple probes, with outstanding accuracy and linearity.
