Before we waste any of your time, we’d like to point out that this directory is for early years practitioners in Surrey. If you’re a registered home-based childcarer (registered childminder or nanny), a playworker or a member of staff at a children’s centre, click here and then choose the directory that has been tailored for you. Now that you know you’re in the right place, on to more practical matters. You will notice that we have changed the format of the directory, we wanted to make it quicker and easier for you to search for and book onto courses that interest you. Whether you’re new to early years with little or no experience of working with children, or you’re a seasoned professional looking to gain more in depth knowledge in a subject, you’ll find something in here for you. You will notice that some workshops have GLD (Good Level of Development) in the title. These workshops have been identified as providing information that supports practitioners in developing a Good Level of Development in children throughout their foundation years, 0-5. Good levels of development are part of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Profile. It’s also designed to tell parents or carers about their child’s development against the EYFS. If any of the workshops you’re interested in are fully booked, click here to ask for another one. If we have enough requests for a workshop in a specific area we will consider adding an extra date to the programme. If you have any questions or feedback about these workshops, please email [email protected] Contents

I agree that the contributions and feelings of participants expressed as part of the course may be used as part of the assessment process but should otherwise be confidential to the group.

Section 11 – Conference __________________________________________________________ Teaching and play in the early years – a balancing act?' Conference Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector (Ofsted) commissioned a good practice survey to gather evidence to address the recurring myth that teaching and play are separate, disconnected endeavours in the early years. Research has never been clearer – a child’s early education lasts a lifetime. Securing a successful start for our youngest children, and particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, is crucial. It can mean the difference between gaining seven Bs at GCSE compared with seven Cs and is estimated to be worth £27,000 more in an individual’s salary over the course of their career. Such rich rewards are by no means guaranteed. When the first five years of a child’s life pass by so quickly, achieving the highest quality of learning and development is critical. We're running a conference all about the report and the findings on Friday 18 March 2016 at Epsom Downs Racecourse. Ofsted will be giving a keynote to open the conference. Our speakers for rest of the day will be Dr Kay Matheison and Helen Moylett who are well known to many of you through their research and writing on early years subjects. The conference is suitable for all early years practitioners. Book – Teaching and play in the early years – a balancing act?
