History & Heritage of RAK
Archaeological excavations reveal that an advanced civilisation involved in trade existed in this region since 5,000 BC.
The famous Arab navigator Ahmed Ibn Majid was born around AD 1432-1437 in RAK (Julphar).
For many years, Ras Al Khaimah was famous for its pearl divers and renowned as an important port of trade with links to Asia.
In 1972, Ras Al Khaimah joined the union of the United Arab Emirates. The UAE, and particularly Ras Al Khaimah, is well known for its rich culture – folk music, folk dance and other traditional and popular art forms that embody and reflect the social and ethical values of the community.

Ninety minutes away from the world’s sixth busiest container port, Jebel Ali Port
Total population of about two billion within a three hour flying distance
Has the largest bulk commodity port in the entire Middle East, Saqr Port, which handled nearly 27.5 million tonnes of bulk and assorted cargo in 2009. The port has 12 berths with a draft of 12.2 metres.
Economy of RAS AL KHAIMAH
RAK’s economy grew at a healthy pace of 8% in turbulent 2009 (GDP of US$ 4.3 Billion) and is forecasted to have an average growth rate of 11% over the next five years.
RAK achieved robust economic growth from 2004 through 2009, averaging 18% (Compounded Annual Growth Rate).
The forecasted GDP for 2010 per capita is USD 17,454.
