The Greater New York Dental Meeting this year hosted over 50,000 attendees for multiple days November 25th – 30th. The GNYDM organized an Implant Expo and the educational material was presented by the ICOI and the AAID, just as last year. We are extremely grateful to Drs. James Doundoulakis and Ian Lerner who again helped us put this program together and will be doing the same next year.

ICOI educators at the GNYDM were:

Dr. Louie Al-Faraje from San Diego, CA, USA, Dr. Nabil Barakat from Beirut, Lebanon, Dr. Jack Hahn from Cincinnati, OH, USA, Dr. Samuel Lee from Buena Park, CA, USA, Dr. Ady Palti from Baden Baden, Germany, Dr. Guido Sarnachiaro from New York, NY, USA, Dr. Michael Sonick from Fairfield, CT, USA, and Dr. Mario Vilardi from Fishkill, NY, USA.

Any income that was generated from the workshops/seminars was given to the GNYDM to use for poster presentation awards. This year the winners were: First Place: Mr. Avrekh Ariy; Second Place: Dr. Selina Somji; Third Place: Drs. Eirini Paroutoglou and Stephen Chi.

The International College of Dentists held a special induction ceremony at the GNYDM. ICOI members who received Fellowship (FICD) were, Dr. Ramiro Alfaro Arellano, Dr. Bruce Haber, Dr. Thomas Magnani, Dr. Sang-Choon Cho, Dr. Stuart Froum, Dr. Scott Ganz, Dr. Scott McFarlane, Dr. Avi Schetritt, Dr. Ron Bulard, and Dr. Luis Grisolia.

Additionally, five doctors from Cuba were recognized and received their fellowships. This was especially appropriate since a Cuban dentist was one of two of the original ICD founders years ago. This year Dra. Estela De Los Angeles Gispert Abreu was especially noted. She has served as the President of the Cuban Society of Stomatology since 2007.

Great news!! The ADIA has launched its new website (www.adiaonline.org). This is one of many steps the ADIA has taken over the last few months in fulfilling its mission to provide ADIA members with the most up to date dental implant education. The new website has a clean, bold look and includes a new classified section. This section will allow ADIA and ICOI members to post available positions and for ADIA members looking for new career opportunities to post their bios. The new website will also have a literature review section with links to recent articles of interest to dental implant auxiliaries. The new ADIA website is a true resource for all its members.

Additionally, the ADIA program for future meetings will feature some exciting new changes. The auxiliaries will start the meeting with their doctors in the main auditorium on Thursday afternoon. Thus the entire dental team can start the meeting together and benefit from the main podium speakers. Friday mornings there will be an ADIA breakfast that will kick off a day of world renowned podium speakers. On Saturday, auxiliaries can attend one of four advanced certification courses. Advanced certification courses are available for assistants, hygienists, practice managers and implant coordinators. These full day courses provide education focused on the specific knowledge and skills necessary to become an integral and indispensable part of the dental implant team.

The newly introduced ADIA table clinic presentations will take place alongside the ICOI table clinic and poster presentations. These 8-10 minute presentations will allow auxiliaries to share their clinical knowledge/experiences with their peers and doctors as well as promote the team approach to implant dentistry.

We personally invite you to bring your entire dental team to the next ICOI meeting and let them experience the ADIA program. We promise you that your team will return to the office energized with a wealth of new information.

Dr. Avi Schetritt, ADIA Executive Director

ICOI NEW IMPLANT GLOSSARYICOI has created a new glossary of implant dentistry that is digital and can be accessed online by visiting www.icoi.org. This glossary has been created by the efforts of many and is free to all. Not just ICOI members. It is now being translated into several languages. We will greatly insure wide translation by utilizing IDREF connections to engage interested parties, for further translation now that we have gone live. A glossary committee will be created and it will evaluate any corrections or additions that any interested party might suggest. It will therefore be a “living document”, but one that is also copyrighted. It would be remiss if we did not thank Drs. Jalbout, Taborian, Ganz, Palti and many others who have made this document come to fruition.

AroundThe WorldEUROPEICOI Further Extends Their European PresenceThe ICOI was founded in 1972 and its primary mission has always been to globally educate all implant team members. However, the ICOI has supported research world wide by issuing grants through our Implant Dentistry Research & Education Foundation (IDREF). After 45 years of international activities and delivering implant education in more than 100 Countries, we decided to act on the individual needs of every special geographical region and especially the EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa) area.

For the first time in 45 years the ICOI created a multilingual web site for the the most heterogenous Continent on our globe. The languages that are currently translated are Arabic, Chinese, English, Farsi, French, German, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Thai and Vietnamese.

At www.icoi.org , www.icoieu.org , www.icoiap.org you can find all information regarding ICOI activities worldwide.

This was necessary to adapt to the different needs and problems related to implant dentistry education, and regulations, country by country, to coordinate and guide all these activities. The ICOI nominated Dr. Ady Palti to be the Director of ICOI Europe. He is also our Co-chairman for Advanced Credentialing and Continuing Education programs.

The ICOI will keep all existing relations with local partner societies. However, other doctors interested in becoming ICOI members without belonging to a local society can DIRECTLY join ICOI Europe and their local country Chapter.

The ICOI is also the FDI partner in research and education in the implant field for the next four years. Our first project concerns research of PERIIMPLANTITIS, classification and treatment protocols.

ICOI Europe Activities

ICOI Europe activities will be able to expand implant education at the highest level in each country and support local doctors to achieve credentials in their country.

ICOI Fellow, Master and Diplomate credentials are offered to our EMEA members .The diplomate status has a European title “EXPERT in ORAL IMPLANTOLOGY of ICOI EUROPE.” This is also an ICOI European trademark.

The First Europe Meeting

The First Europe Meeting will be held June 8-10, 2017 in Cracow, Poland. We will also host a Consensus Conference on “Standards of Care for the Edentulous Mandible” to describe solutions for this special area that have long term success and predictable results. Hope to see you there. We hope to help our local members creating successful meetings and Study Clubs in their areas.

Advantages for ICOI and “ICOI Europe” Members

We would like our members to become leaders in their individual countries.

We will deliver to each ICOI member every year 60 FREE dental/implant animations for Patient Education (dentalmaster.com).

This will give every member the possibility to explain and demonstrate multiple implant procedures.

Our European members will get “ORALE IMPLANTOLOGIE” as a clinical Journal with case presentions and step by step description of implant procedures in the daily implant practice and of course our Implant Dentistry journal (with its Impact Factor).

We also are delivering Implant Curricula for every level of the entire team.

Basic Curriculum from ICOI educators for future implantologists. 16 days of implant education with hands on and live surgeries in different locations. This basic education will currently be delivered in German/English or other languages upon request.

The next level will be training for Prosthetic Masters, 4 weekends of Digital and Prosthetic Education including TMD and occlusion aspects, for doctors who want to focus on prosthetic restorations and obtain the ICOI Master credential certificate.

The third level of education will be the Advanced Curriculum for future Diplomates/Experts in Oral Implatology.

These Curricula in combination with our local Study Clubs, meetings & symposia will deliver the most complete implant education a doctor and his team needs for a successful implant practice. WE TAKE YOU TO THE TOP!

We will implement Young Implantologists in our programs worldwide so we can support talented speakers in cooperation with different societies or study clubs.
