We welcome you today, and always, just as you are: content or wiggly, confused or
confident. In this bulletin the whole congregation says the texts in bold. Page numbers
refer to the Book of Common Prayer, which is the smaller black book, however
everything you would need for this service is in this bulletin. Hymns listed with just a
number are found in the RED hymnal. All directions for sitting and standing are ‘as you
are able’, because we welcome you just as you are.
If you need assistance of any kind, ask a neighbor or an usher.
We share Holy Communion every Sunday that we can, and we invite all Christians to
share in this mystery given by Jesus to all his people across time and planet. If you
would like to know more about Christ Church and how we practice the Christian faith in
this time and place, we invite you to fill out a pew card and place it in the offering plate.

PSALM: Psalm 116:1-3, 10-17
1I love the LORD, because he has heard the voice of my supplication, *
because he has inclined his ear to me whenever I called upon him.
2The cords of death entangled me;
the grip of the grave took hold of me; *
I came to grief and sorrow.
3Then I called upon the Name of the LORD: *
“O LORD, I pray you, save my life.”
10How shall I repay the LORD *
for all the good things he has done for me?
11I will lift up the cup of salvation *
and call upon the Name of the LORD.
12I will fulfill my vows to the LORD *
in the presence of all his people.
13Precious in the sight of the LORD *
is the death of his servants.
14O LORD, I am your servant; *
I am your servant and the child of your handmaid;
you have freed me from my bonds.
15I will offer you the sacrifice of thanksgiving *
and call upon the Name of the LORD.
16I will fulfill my vows to the LORD *
in the presence of all his people,
17In the courts of the LORD‘s house, *
in the midst of you, O Jerusalem.
Hallelujah!
At the end of the Psalm is sung or said
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: *
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.
The Lessons
FIRST READING: Acts 2:14a, 36-41
The people sit.
A Reading from the Acts of the Apostles.
14aPeter, standing with the eleven, raised his voice and addressed [the crowd], 36“Therefore let the
entire house of Israel know with certainty that God has made him both Lord and Messiah, this
Jesus whom you crucified.”
37Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and to the other
apostles, “Brothers, what should we do?” 38Peter said to them, “Repent, and be baptized every
one of you in the name of Jesus Christ so that your sins may be forgiven; and you will receive
the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39For the promise is for you, for your children, and for all who are far

away, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to him.” 40And he testified with many other
arguments and exhorted them, saying, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.” 41So those
who welcomed his message were baptized, and that day about three thousand persons were
added.

The people sit.
A Reading from the First letter of Peter.
17If you invoke as Father the one who judges all people impartially according to their deeds, live
in reverent fear during the time of your exile. 18You know that you were ransomed from the futile
ways inherited from your ancestors, not with perishable things like silver or gold, 19but with the
precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without defect or blemish. 20He was destined before
the foundation of the world, but was revealed at the end of the ages for your sake. 21Through him
you have come to trust in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your
faith and hope are set on God.
22Now that you have purified your souls by your obedience to the truth so that you have
genuine mutual love, love one another deeply from the heart. 23You have been born anew, not of
perishable but of imperishable seed, through the living and enduring word of God.

THIRD READING: Luke 24:13-35
The people sit.
A Reading from Luke.
13Now on that same day two of [the disciples] were going to a village called Emmaus, about
seven miles from Jerusalem, 14and talking with each other about all these things that had
happened. 15While they were talking and discussing, Jesus himself came near and went with
them, 16but their eyes were kept from recognizing him. 17And he said to them, “What are you
discussing with each other while you walk along?” They stood still, looking sad. 18Then one of
them, whose name was Cleopas, answered him, “Are you the only stranger in Jerusalem who
does not know the things that have taken place there in these days?” 19He asked them, “What
things?” They replied, “The things about Jesus of Nazareth, who was a prophet mighty in deed
and word before God and all the people, 20and how our chief priests and leaders handed him over
to be condemned to death and crucified him. 21But we had hoped that he was the one to redeem
Israel. Yes, and besides all this, it is now the third day since these things took place. 22Moreover,
some women of our group astounded us. They were at the tomb early this morning, 23and when
they did not find his body there, they came back and told us that they had indeed seen a vision of
angels who said that he was alive. 24Some of those who were with us went to the tomb and found
it just as the women had said; but they did not see him.” 25Then he said to them, “Oh, how
foolish you are, and how slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have declared! 26Was it not
necessary that the Messiah should suffer these things and then enter into his glory?” 27Then
beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he interpreted to them the things about himself in all
the scriptures.
28As they came near the village to which they were going, he walked ahead as if he were
going on. 29But they urged him strongly, saying, “Stay with us, because it is almost evening and
the day is now nearly over.” So he went in to stay with them. 30When he was at the table with
them, he took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them. 31Then their eyes were opened,
and they recognized him; and he vanished from their sight. 32They said to each other, “Were not
our hearts burning within us while he was talking to us on the road, while he was opening the
scriptures to us?” 33That same hour they got up and returned to Jerusalem; and they found the
eleven and their companions gathered together. 34They were saying, “The Lord has risen indeed,
and he has appeared to Simon!” 35Then they told what had happened on the road, and how he had
been made known to them in the breaking of the bread.

THE APOSTLES’ CREED
Presider and People together, all standing.
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit
and born of the Virgin Mary.
![Page 11: Worship Plan for Sunday, April 26, 2020christchurchridleypark.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/... · refer to the Book of Common Prayer, which is the smaller black book, however everything](https://reader033.vdocument.in/reader033/viewer/2022050103/5f422312d42b791ded233c08/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

THE LORD’S PRAYER
Presider and People
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your Name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done, on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial
and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours,
now and forever. Amen.
Christ is present with us, in us and through us. In faith let us offer the prayers of our hearts, as we
set our trust and hope on God, saying: We offer you the sacrifice of thanksgiving; and call upon
your holy Name.

For the Church universal, give her strength and forbearance as she navigates new and non-
traditional ways to be the Gospel and to be present to those in our communities. Help all of us
understand that our buildings are not the church, but the foundation which grounds us and from
whence we are sent to minister. We offer you the sacrifice of thanksgiving; and call upon your
holy Name. For the leaders of the world, especially countries hardest hit by COVID-19, that may seek out
and find the resources to help their countries deal with the pandemic in healthy and life
sustaining ways. We offer you the sacrifice of thanksgiving; and call upon your holy Name. For the president and the leaders of our country, that they may find the strength to lead with
compassion and empathy for all our citizens, regardless of; disability, age, ethnicity, socio-
economic standing, whom they love or where they live. We offer you the sacrifice of
thanksgiving; and call upon your holy Name.
For those who have contracted the COVID virus, those in isolation/quarantine, for their families
and for those that live in a state of anxiety and fear because of it.
We offer you the sacrifice of thanksgiving; and call upon your holy Name. For the people on the front lines: police, firefighters, EMT’s, doctors, nurses, and all hospital
staff that are putting themselves at risk to minister to the sick in ways that they have never
imagined; and for those seeking a cure. Names of those serving in military and as first
responders. We offer you the sacrifice of thanksgiving; and call upon your holy Name. For the people that are usually forgotten but that are sustaining us now; grocery store clerks,
truckers, farmers and laborers, that are being challenged to meet the needs of a society filled with
fear, angst and a tendency towards hoarding. We offer you the sacrifice of thanksgiving; and
call upon your holy Name. We pray for the children who are displaced by no school, for the parents that are trying to cope,
for those that are taking care of their younger siblings and trying to school themselves. For the
teachers that are having to teach in ways for which they were never trained. We offer you the
sacrifice of thanksgiving; and call upon your holy Name. For those that are finding their close quarters smaller than they realized and for those households
where tensions may be running high. For all who live alone and find themselves completely cut
off from human touch and face to face relationships. We offer you the sacrifice of thanksgiving;
and call upon your holy Name. We pray for those who find themselves unemployed and those who have lost their financial
security; and those who have had their jobs put on hold. We offer you the sacrifice of
thanksgiving; and call upon your holy Name. For all who are sick for any reason and who may be being forgotten. Names on our prayer
list. We offer you the sacrifice of thanksgiving; and call upon your holy Name.

For all that have died from the spread of this virus, may they find themselves in a place of light
and peace, freed from the bonds of this earthy life, and may their families find consolation
knowing their loved ones are wrapped in your embrace.
We remember today (names of those in Memorial and recently died)
We offer you the sacrifice of thanksgiving; and call upon your holy Name.
For all that we now name, either silently or aloud: … (a period of silence) ………… We offer
you the sacrifice of thanksgiving; and call upon your holy Name.
O Lord our God, accept the fervent prayers of your people; in the multitude of your mercies,
look with compassion upon us and all who turn to you for help; for you are gracious, O lover of
souls, and to you we give glory, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen.
FIRST COLLECT
O God, whose blessed Son made himself known to his disciples in the breaking of bread: Open
the eyes of our faith, that we may behold him in all his redeeming work; who lives and reigns
with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
SECOND COLLECT
God of the present moment, God, who in Jesus stills the storm and soothes the frantic heart;
bring hope and courage to your people as we wait in uncertainty. Bring hope that you will make
us equal to whatever lies ahead. Bring us courage to endure what cannot be avoided, and the
obedience to refrain from what must be avoided for the wellbeing of all; for your will is health
and wholeness; you are God, and we need You. In the name of Jesus Christ, our Savior. Amen.
BIRTHDAY; ANNIVERSARY; MILESTONE PRAYER
O God, our times are in your hand. Look with favor on your servants who celebrate birthdays
and anniversaries these weeks, as they continue the journey of their lives. Grant that they may
grow in wisdom and grace and strengthen their trust in your goodness all the days of their lives,
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
THE GENERAL THANKSGIVING
Presider and People
Almighty God, Father of all mercies,
we your unworthy servants give you humble thanks
for all your goodness and loving-kindness
to us and to all whom you have made.
We bless you for our creation, preservation,
and all the blessings of this life;
but above all for your immeasurable love
in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ;
for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory.
And, we pray, give us such an awareness of your mercies,
that with truly thankful hearts we may show forth your praise,
