Tips for Writing the Formal Letter If typing it out, use the font Times New Roman or
similar If handwriting it, use neat handwriting with no
cross-outs!!! Don’t use slang or texting lingo when writing a
formal letter. (Formal people might not know what it means!)
Make sure to check your letter for grammatical, punctuation, capitalization, or spelling mistakes and eliminate them from your formal letter.

Final Step: Addressing your LetterThis is probably the most important step to making
your letter look formal and professional. (If you can’t even address the envelope right, some people won’t even bother reading what’s inside.) It’s like the preface to your letter. If you do it right, people can assume that your letter will be correct in all aspects. If it is incorrectly done, people might assume that your entire letter is incorrect or not truly formal.
