COMING UPThe Buffaloes of West Texas A&M return home following a five game road trip as they host the Cameron Aggies in Lone Star Conference action on Thursday night with tipoff set for 7:30 p.m. at the First United Bank Center in Canyon.

- SCOUTING THE OPPONENTCAMERONAndrew Brown is in his first season at the helm of the Aggies following a season as CU’s top assistant in 2015-16. Brown is a 100 game winner as a head coach at Northwestern Oklahoma State where he led the Rangers from 2007-15 and complied an overall record of 119-112. The Aggies enter the weekend with an overall record of 14-9 with a 7-6 mark in LSC play following a 56-58 loss at Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday afternoon. The Aggies are 5-4 on the road this season including 5-2 in LSC games away from Lawton. CU is led offensively by Tyus Momoh who has gone 102-of-241 from the floor including 48-of-123 from deep and 28-of-46 from the free throw line to average 12.2 points per contest. The Aggies have gone 596-of-1448 (41.2%) from the field including 196-of-561 (34.9%) from deep and 350-of-521 (67.2%) from the charity stripe while averaging 38.7 (-0.4) rebounds and 75.6 (+4.3) points per game. The Buffs lead the all-time series against the Aggies, 32-14 with the Buffs taking the lat meeting on Jan. 7th in one of the best college basketball games of the season (100-98) in a four overtime thriller in Lawton. The Aggies are 6-19 all-time against the Buffs in Canyon.

- A LOOK BACKUTPB RECAPWest Texas A&M junior guard David Chavlovich became the program’s all-time leading scorer on Saturday afternoon but it wasn’t enough as the Buffs fell to the #25 Falcons of UT Permian Basin, 77-73 inside of the Falcon Dome in Lone Star Conference action in Odessa, Texas.

The Buffs went 21-of-61 (34.4%) from the field including 12-of-37 (32.4%) from long range and

19-of-29 (65.5%) from the free throw line with 30 rebounds (11 offensive, 19 defensive), 12 assists, 13 turnovers, two blocks and nine steals. Chavlovich went 10-of-24 from the floor and 6-of-15 from deep to lead the Buffs with 28 points followed by Jordan Evans with 15. The Falcons were led by Daeshon Francis who went 10-of-16 from the field and 5-of-7 from the free throw line with 25 points followed by James McPherson (16) and Johnnie Lacy (12) in double figures while Sammy Allen grabbed 12 rebounds. UTPB went 21-of-49 (42.9%) from the floor including 5-of-17 (29.4%) from deep and 30-of-34 (88.2%) from the free throw line with 42 rebounds (nine offensive, 33 defensive), eight assists, 25 turnovers, two steals and five blocks.

LAST MEETING WITH CU (JAN. 7, 2017)The then #11 Buffaloes of West Texas A&M scored just 18 points in the first half but battled back to claim a wild Lone Star Conference victory in Lawton, Oklahoma as WT topped the Cameron Aggies, 100-98 in four overtimes to tie the longest game in WTAMU history.

The Buffs went 32-of-91 (35.2%) from the field in the game including 8-of-39 (20.5%) from deep and 28-of-39 (71.8%) from the charity stripe with 56 rebounds (12 offensive, 44 defensive), 16 assist, 13 turnovers, six blocks an seven steals. Chavlovich went 8-of-30 from the floor to lead the Buff with 28 points followed by Golightly Jr. (17), Quaid (15), Evans (14), Walton (12) and White (11) in double-figures while Quaid grabbed 15 rebounds for a double-double.

THE TOP OF THE LISTDavid Chavlovich became WT’s all-time leading scorer on a long ball with 19:10 on the clock in the second half on Saturday, January 5th in Odessa, Texas for his 13th point of the game and his 1,567th career point in 83 games over the last three season in Maroon & White to average an incredible 19.1 points per game. NABC DIVISION II TOP-25 POLL (FEB. 7)The Buffs enter the week with an 19-6 overall record with a 7-5 mark in Lone Star Conference play. Northwest Missouri State picked up all 16 of the possible first places votes for a total of 400 points followed by West Liberty (382), Hawai’l Pacific (346), Indiana, Pa. (343), Fair-mont State (340), Queens (312), Belarmine (302), Cal Baptist (296), Kutztown (278) and Barry (264) to round out the top ten.

The South Central Region was represented by Tarleton State (#11), Fort Lewis (#12), UT Permian Basin (#19) and Colorado School of Mines (#25).

HOME SWEET HOMEWest Texas A&M hits the road for a five game road trip following a pair of LSC home wins this past weekend, the Buffs are a perfect 11-0 at home this season. During those 11 home contests, WT has shot 47.8% (328-of-686) including 32.9% (99-of-301) from behind the arc and 75.1% (257-of-342) from the charity stripe to go along with 40.3 (+5.9) rebounds per game and 92.0 (+17.0) points per contest.

NATIONALLY SPEAKINGWT leads DII Basketball in two offensive categories: free throws attempted (723), free throws made (524) while ranking 13th in total rebounds (968), fifth in 3-pt field goal attempts (738) and 10th in to-tal 3-pt field goals made (244). Junior guard David Chavlovich ranks fifth in 3-pt field goal attempts (215), 10th in field goal attempts (391) and 23rd in total points (485).

Tom Brown was hired on April 16, 2014, as the 17th head coach in WT men’s basketball history.

In just two short years Brown has turned around the West Texas A&M University Basketball Program. Brown led the team to its first 20+ win season since 2010-11. The Buffs were picked to finish 5th in the LSC this past season and despite a pre-season, season ending injury to sophomore starter Carl White the team still managed to finish 2nd in the LSC with an overall record of 21-10. The 2nd place finish is the highest since the conference was split North/South. The Buffs continued to battle minor injuries throughout the year but every player that was called on would step up. Under Brown’s di-rection the team had some very strong individual performances. WT sophomore guard David Chav-lovich led the way. For his outstanding play David was named an NABC All-American, the Lone Star Conference Player of the Year and 1st Team All-LSC selection. Sophomore Jordan Evans (playing in his first season) received honorable mention All-LSC acclaim. The Buffs again were dominate in the classroom as the team GPA exceeded a 3.0 for the year.

2015-16 the Buffs set a new record in the class-room. The team recorded the highest GPA for Men’s Basketball in a season.

Coach Brown inherited a WT team that won two games in the LSC and 10 games overall in 2013-14. Brown had to start from scratch in late April, the team had three seniors and one walkon redshirt freshman. Just three student-athletes saw playing time from the previous year and the team was picked to finish last in the Lone Star Confer-ence Preseason Poll. However, under Brown West Texas A&M University finished the season 5th in the LSC and posted a 17-12 overall record. The Buffs made the LSC Tournament as the fifth seed. There were some individual accolades as well, all three of the returning seniors improved on their scoring average from the previous season. Tez Dumars surpassed Maurice Cheeks in WT All-Time scoring and finished his career ranked 4th All-Time in scoring at WT. David Chavlovich was the squads leading scorer, 2nd Team All-Conference Perform-er and the Freshman of the Year in the LSC as he averaged 16.5 points per contest to go along with 93 assists and 30 steals.

In 2014-15, the Buffs set a new record in the classroom. The team recorded the highest GPA for Men’s Basketball in a season.

Tom was the driving force as the Associate Head Coach and head recruiter in the most successful Division II men’s basketball program in recent history at Winona State University. The Warriors won the NCAA Division II National Cham-pionship in 2006 and 2008 and finished as the National Finalist in 2007. During that span, Winona State posted an unprecedented 105-6 record. WT Assistant Coach Quincy Henderson played for Coach Brown from 2005-2008. Quincy’s record as a collegiate player at WSU was 105-6.

Named Division II Bulletin’s ‘Program of the Decade’ for 2000-2009, WSU set a NCAA Division II record with 57 consecutive wins, a run that began on Jan. 13, 2006, and didn’t end until the national title game on Mar. 24, 2007. The 2007-08 Warrior squad won a NCAA record 38 games.

An excellent recruiter and teacher, Brown recruited and developed some of the best players in the nation with three National Player of the Year recipients, along with seven first team All-America honorees. 11 players total have earned All-America status including WT Sopho-more David Chavlovich. Brown has coached five NSIC Most Valuable Players, seven NSIC Defen-sive Players of the Year and two Elite Eight Most Valuable Players.

Brown is doing it again at WT as David Chav-lovich has earned both Freshman of the Year and Player of the Year in the best Division II Confer-ence in the Nation, the Lone Star Conference.

Brown attended and played basketball (1988-1992) and baseball (1991) at Winona State University. He finished his Warrior career ranked fifth in program history in scoring, second in assists and first in steals. He earned his bachelor’s degree in 1993 in physical education and completed his master’s degree in education in 1998.

He and his wife Dr. Trisha Brown are the proud parents of three children, TJ, Zach and Ella. Dr. Brown is currently an Instructor and works in the Sports & Exercise Science Department at West Texas A&M.

ORANGE, CA - West Texas A&M opened up their 2016-17 campaign in style as five different Buffs scored in double-figures to lead WT to an 86-72 season opening win over the Azusa Pacific Cougars to open up the CCA Division II Tipoff Classic at the Santia-go Canyon College Athletics Com-plex in Orange, California.

The Buffs went 28-of-64 (43.8%) from the floor including 10-of-24 (41.7%) from deep and 20-of-28 (71.4%) from the charity stripe to go along with 37 rebounds (nine offensive, 28 defen-sive), 13 assist, seven turnovers, two blocks and nine steals. Evans led the way for WT with 20 points followed by Chavlovich (16), Walton (14), White (13), and Quaid (12) in double-digits while Quaid ended the game with 10 rebounds for a double-double.

Azusa Pacific went 23-of-57 (40.4%) from the field including 9-of-26 (34.6% from long range and 17-of-23 (73.9%) from the free throw line to go along with 40 rebounds (10 offensive, 30 defensive), 13 assists, 20 turnovers, two blocks and four steals. Schreiber led all players with 25 points on the afternoon followed by Peterson with 14 and Kutlesic with 13.

ORANGE, CA - West Texas A&M junior guard Jordan Evans scored 20 points for the second straight contest as the Buffs shot 50 percent from the floor in an 83-70 win over St. Cloud State during the CCA Division II Tipoff Clas-sic at the Santiago Canyon College Athletics Complex in Orange, Califor-nia.

The Buffs were led offensively by Ev-ans with his second straight 20-point performance followed by White with 17 and Chavlovich with 15. Walton, Chavlovich and White grabbed six rebounds each while Chavlovich dished out five steals. WT went 29-of-58 (50%) from the floor including 11-of-25 (44%) from deep and 14-of-28 (50%) with 36 rebounds (nine offen-sive, 27 defensive), 17 assists, 13 turn-overs, two blocks and three steals. The Huskies were led by Davis with 23 points followed by Scottie Stone with 16 while Davis grabbed eight rebounds on the night. SCSU went 22-of-61 (36.1%) from the floor including 7-of-21 (33.3%) from long range and 19-of-26 (73.1%) from the free throw line to go along with 42 rebounds (15 offensive, 27 defensive), 11 assists, 16 turnovers, five blocks and five steals.

ORANGE, CA - The Buffaloes of West Texas A&M are off to their best start to a season since 2012-13 thanks to an 11-0 run in the heart of the sec-ond half as WT outlasted #23 Arkan-sas-Fort Smith, 94-86 in the finale of the CCA Division II Tipoff Classic at the Santiago Canyon College Athlet-ics Complex in Orange, California.
