Duties include all aspects of civil litigation, i.e. discovery,motions practice, brief writing and evidentiary hearings. Theincumbent serves under the direct supervision of the Chief ofthe Personnel and Labor Relations Section.

QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have five (5) to ten(10) years of relevant legal or litigation experience, includingadministrative hearings. The successful candidate must havesignificant experience in the area of employment/workers'compensation law and possess excellent oral and writtencommunication skills.

The attorney’sresponsibilities include, but are not limited to:•Development and implementation of protocols pertaining toCSEC cases;•Assist with drafting a memorandum of understandingbetween stakeholders, including D.C. Superior Court,Department of Behavioral Health, and Child and FamilyServices Agency;•Attend court staffings, court hearings, and all meetingsrelated to the CSEC specialty court;•Attend MDT case review regarding children with identifiedCSEC concerns;•Advise CFSA and OAG regarding compliance with federal andlocal human trafficking legislation and participate in the DCCity Council process as needed;•Contribute to OAG’s efforts to educate the public andcommunity-based organizations about CSEC-related issues;develop written materials and curriculum for such purposes;•Conduct periodic trainings for CFSA and OAG staff;•Represent FSD on the D.C. This position specializes in enforcement of the District’snonprofits and charities laws. Duties will include: identifyingareas for investigation, conducting pre-complaint discoveryusing compulsory process and informal methods, analyzingcomplex factual and legal issues, negotiating settlements,preparing matters for litigation, litigating cases through trialin D.C. SUMMARY:

Northwest Immigrant Rights Project (NWIRP) seeks a full-timebilingual staff attorney to work with individuals in removalproceedings in Seattle, Washington. The attorney will providedirect representation in removal proceedings, including at theSeattle and Tacoma Immigration Courts, the Board of ImmigrationAppeals, and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. The attorney willbe managing a high-volume workload with complex legal issues inimmigration and criminal law. The attorney may also be assignedwork relating to other immigration matters.

Beginning annual salary is $62,017 for a licensed attorney with noexperience and is higher for attorneys with specific types ofexperience. For example, for someone with 10 years of non-profitimmigration attorney experience the annual salary would be$84,644; 20 years = $100,355.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide direct representation to clients in removal proceedingsbefore the Immigration Court, Board of Immigration Appeals,federal courts of appeal, and/or in custody of the Department ofHomeland Security

• Provide direct representation to clients submitting affirmativeapplications with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, and topersons undergoing consular processing with the U.S. Departmentof State

• Perform related administrative tasks related to grant reportingand other requirements

• Maintain a working knowledge of significant policies, laws, andtrends in immigration law, particularly as it impacts low-incomeimmigrants and refugees and those impacted by the criminaljustice system

• Engage in outreach, community education in the area ofimmigrant rights

• Provide support to other NWIRP staff on cases

• Participate in NWIRP’s development efforts

• Perform other tasks as required and directed by supervisory staff

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

• Law degree

• Admission to the bar of any state in the U.S.

• Demonstrated commitment to advancing and defendingimmigrant rights and willingness to support NWIRP’s mission,vision, and values

• Excellent writing, communication, interpersonal, andorganizational skills

• Commitment to working in a diverse working environment

• Fluency in English and a second language (preferably Spanish butwill consider applicants who speak another language)

• Prior immigration law and removal experience strongly preferred

RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position will be the lead project manager of StateSupport’s activities that support the civil legal servicescommunity. RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position will be the lead technology project manager ofState Support’s access to justice projects that have atechnology focus. Through a range of programs, we provide high-quality legaland social services to the more than 10,000 men, women, and children that aredetained in Arizona on any given day. The Florence Project is nationally known for itslegal service models, which strive to empower detained individuals and ensure thatthey have access to justice. The Florence Project also actively supports initiatives fornational changes in immigration law and policy.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: ATTORNEY - MENTAL HEALTH TEAM

The Florence Project is seeking a full-time Attorney to join our Mental Health team.This team provides direct representation and social service support to adults withserious mental health conditions who are in immigration removal proceedings. Theattorney will work on a team of attorneys, legal assistants, and social workers toprovide legal assistance and case management to detained and formerly detainedclients who have been found mentally incompetent by an immigration judge and whoare appointed a “Qualified Representative” by the Executive Office for ImmigrationReview.

Essential duties include:

Provide direct representation in immigration proceedings and custodyredetermination hearings before the Immigration Court, representationbefore the Board of Immigration Appeals, representation in applicationsbefore United States Citizenship and Immigration Services, and other relatedservices reasonably necessary to represent these clients in their removalproceedings. Work as a team, with supervisor(s), other attorneys, legal assistants, andsocial workers, to provide zealous and holistic representation to clients.Collaborate with social workers on release planning and case management –connecting the client to community services such as health care, housing, orother support as needed.Work with mental health professionals and other experts necessary forclients’ cases.Occasionally assist with other Florence Project legal duties on an as neededbasis.

This is a full-time litigation position that requires frequent time in detention facilitiesand immigration courts located in Florence and Eloy, AZ. Additionally released clientsmay reside throughout Arizona with immigration court in either Tucson or Phoenix. The Mental Health team is mostly based in our Tucson office, thoughparticularly strong candidates may also be considered for work from ourPhoenix office. Northwest Immigrant Rights Project (NWIRP) seeks a Spanish-speaking attorney, or law graduate that took the July 2019 barexamination to provide direct representation and communityoutreach and education to individuals seeking legal assistance in avariety of affirmative and defensive immigration matters. Thisposition will be based in NWIRP’s Wenatchee Office.

The staff attorney will provide legal assistance to communitymembers through: (1) direct representation (2) individualconsultations; (3) self-help assistance in the form of communityworkshops and legal clinics; and (4) community education. Theattorney will provide legal representation in various matters, butwill focus on 1) defending individuals in removal proceedings; 2)representing victims of crime in applying for immigration benefits(including self-petitions, U visas, T visas, and other forms ofrelief); and 3) representing community members seekingimmigration status through family visa petitions. The attorney mayalso be assigned work relating to other immigration matters asneeded.

Beginning annual salary is $62,017 for a licensed attorney with noexperience and is higher for attorneys with specific types ofexperience. For example, for someone with 10 years of non-profitimmigration attorney experience the annual salary would be$84,644; 20 years = $100,355.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Internship Timeline

Interns are accepted on a rolling basis until filled.

If accepted, during the internship, you will expect to gainexpertise in all aspects of civil litigation process, includingserving and drafting affidavits of service; draft mediation/settlement position letters; propounding and responding tointerrogatories, document production requests, requests toadmit; drafting affidavits in support of motions of default andconditional collective certification; and enforcement ofjudgments. You will additionally have received training inCourt Filing (ECF/ NYSCEF), legal research (WestLaw andLexisNexis) and have attended depositions or shadowedattorneys to court conferences, and communicating with stateand federal agencies like the National Labor Relations Boardand the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

You will be assigned administrative tasks, including thedocketing of court emails, submission of electronics permitrequests for conferences in the Southern District federalcourt, rescheduling court conferences with the judge andopposing counsel, and the mailing out of Notice of Pendencyto potential Fair Labor Standards Act Conditional CollectiveCertification opt-in Plaintiffs.

A stipend up to $1000, subject to regular attendance andcompletion of the internship, will be provided. In addition, theinternship may lead to future employment.

to pass the West Virginia Bar Examination within two (2)attempts will result in a loss of employment. West

Description:The Legal Department of the American Federation of Labor andCongress of Industrial Organizations ("AFL-CIO") is offering a one-year fellowship beginning in September 2020. The AFL-CIO is a voluntary federation of 55 national andinternational unions which represent over 12 million workingwomen and men in the United States. The AFL-CIO works on avariety of fronts to improve the lives of working families, to securesocial and economic justice in the United States, and to protect theinterests of working people in the global economy. The AFL-CIOand its affiliates have been instrumental not only in negotiatinggood pay and benefits for union members, but also in theenactment and enforcement of laws that protect important rightsfor all workers, such as Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, theOccupational Safety and Health Act, and the Family and MedicalLeave Act.

The Legal Department works on a wide range of litigation, policy,regulatory and legislative matters, and assists with organizingcampaigns, corporate governance issues, and other AFL-CIOinitiatives. The Legal Department also houses the LawyersCoordinating Committee, a national organization of union-sideattorneys, which issues various publications and holds educationalconferences on a regular basis.

The AFL-CIO Fellow will work with lawyers in the AFL-CIO LegalDepartment and with other union lawyers around the country on awide variety of matters. The Fellow will assist experienced lawyersworking on cases and regulatory matters that affect the labormovement and the rights of workers. The AFL-CIO's litigationcaseload includes cases in the U.S. Supreme Court and the U.S.Courts of Appeals and before the NLRB and a small number ofstate appellate courts. In addition, the AFL-CIO Legal Departmentfrequently presents the views of the labor movement on federalregulatory initiatives affecting workers. Whenever possible, theFellow will be given the opportunity to participate in meetings withunion lawyers and to attend oral arguments. The AFL-CIO Fellowwill also participate in Lawyers Coordinating Committee activities,including preparation for attorney conferences, outreach to newlabor lawyers and law students, and regular opportunities to attendLCC meetings and conferences.

The fellowship salary is in the range of $65,000 to $70,000depending on experience. Benefits include excellent medical anddental insurance plus paid vacation.
