Why Did World War 1 Start?• In 1918 Germany lost World War One. It had to give up land and was

banned from having armed forces.

• In 1933 the German people voted for a leader and they chose Adolf Hitler, who led a political party in Germany called the National Socialists or Nazis. Hitler promised to make his country great again and quickly began to arm Germany again and to take land from other countries.

• Not long before 5am on Friday 1st September 1939, Germany attacked the Polish frontier (The line between one country to the other). Tanks and troops raced into the country (over ground) supported by Stuka dive bombers (Stuka was a dive bomber that was used by the Germans in WW2). 1.25 million German soliders got into Poland.

Neville Chamberlain

• Arthur Neville Chamberlain was born in Birmingham in England on 18th of march 1869.

• Arthur Chamberlain was Prime Minister of Great Britain in September 1939 at the start of World War II.

• In May 1940 Arthur resigned and Winston Church Hill became Prime Minster

Winston Churchill

• Winston Churchill was born in Woodstock on 30th November in 1874.

• Prime Minister of Great Britain during most of the war, from 1940 to 1945, Winstion Churchill led Britain to victory.

Joseph Stalin

• Before World War 2 Joseph Stalin imprisoned almost all of Russia's senior military officers and millions of other Russian citizens.

• President of the United States of America (1933-1945).

• He declared war on Japan after the bombing at Pearl Harbor.a Unfortunately he did not live long enough to celebrate the allies victory in September of 1945.

Harry Truman

• Became president of the United States in the final year of World War II. He played a major role in the war by making the decision to use the atomic bomb against Japan.

Chareles De Gaulle

A French general who led the French in their fight against Germany. After World War II. He became president of France.

• Allied with Britain when the war started.

Robert Menzies

• Prime minister of Australia. Joined World War 2 beside Great Britain when the war started.

• Prime minister of New Zealand joined World War 2 and allied Great Britain when the war started.

Adolf Hitler

• Adolf Hitler was born on April 20th 1889 in a small Austrian town called Braunau near to the German border.

• Hitler served in the Bavarian army during World War I and rose to become the leader of Nazi Germany during World War II.

• Prime minister of Japan (October 1941 - July 1944).

• Prime minister of Italy (1922-1943). He joined forces with Adolf Hitler to fight

•Ann Frank

Ann Frank• Anne Frank was an ordinary German Jewish girl. She enjoyed playing with

her toys, riding her bike and going to the seaside.

• Anne Frank is well known because of her diary. It was first published as a book, in Dutch, in 1947. Since then, millions of people have read the thoughts and hopes of one young girl and have been inspired by them.

• Hitler wanted to create what he saw was the perfect German so this meant that anyone who did not fit into his perfect “image” was persecuted (ill treated) and/or killed. Hitler persecuted German citizens who were Jewish, Gypsies, or otherwise “undesirables”.

• By the end of World War II six million Jews were killed because they were (in Hitler's eyes) different.

Ann Frank

• Anne Frank and other Jews were forced to think they were lower to everyone else just because they had a different religious belief.

• Anne called her diary 'Kitty'.

• In march 1945 sadly Ann dies of typhus
