On July 20, 1969, Apollo 11 took the first astronauts to the moon! On the 45th anniversary of this historic event, we invite you to Land at Your Library as part of our own historic event — the Grand Reopening and dedication of our renovation and expansion project. To celebrate we will be having an open house on Sunday, July 20 starting at 1 PM (when the library normally opens on Sundays). The Mayor of the City of Westfield, Andy Cook, our Director, Sheryl Sollars, and some members of our Library Board of Trustees, will speak and a ribbon cutting ceremony will follow. Everyone is invited to come explore our new spaces, including the quiet study rooms in the Adult Services department, the room specially designed for Teens, and our new Community Room in the basement. There will also be food and beverages served in the Community Room.
Kids can compare their foot to Neil Armstrong’s on the surface of the Moon and check out books about space, which goes along with this year’s Summer Reading theme Fizz, Boom, Read!

stories and four novels written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The Hound of the Baskervilles is the third of the four novels and was serialized in The Strand Magazine from August 1901 to April 1902. Set largely in England's West Country, it tells the story of an attempted murder inspired by the legend of a fearsome, diabolical hound of supernatural origin. Join us in our new Community Room for a viewing of the 1959 version, the first of many film adaptations to be filmed in color. Starring Peter Cushing and Sir Christopher Lee.
Elements of Memoir Writing Your story matters! This class will start you with some important elements of making literary art out of your story including, things to avoid in the memoir, how story and real life work together, and how to craft techniques from the chapter to the paragraph to the sentence. After the workshop, you should feel better equipped to put your story into writing for a public audience.
Wednesday, July 23 @ 6:30 PM

The Friends of the Westfield Library is an organization designed to promote and
support the mission of the Westfield Washington Public
Library. Through its fundraising efforts, primarily book sales held in the library and online, the group raises money used to fund library programs and to purchase

Friends News
We have so many items in our Friends Room that we need to make room! In order to remedy this problem we shipped off items that have been in the book sale for weeks, rearranged, and started putting out fresh material. A majority of the items out now are Adult Biographies and Juvenile Non-fiction titles, as these areas were most recently evaluated according to the library’s collection development policy. Of course, there is always a little of everything.
We’re also working on hanging our bulletin board up in the new area, setting up an old book drop box for dropping off your donations, and getting some comfy chairs for times when the book sale is not set up.
Have you seen the new sign out front? The Friends gave the library funds to pay for this as well as the new outdoor awnings, which will hopefully be installed next week!
Thanks for being a member and shopping our book sales. We couldn’t have done it without you!
