The Wyandanch Public Library is on the move! Despite a challenging environment wrought with funding limitations and staff transition, we continue to strive to push ahead in the best way possible in service to the community. WPL continues to cultivate resources that provide for community-centered educational and cultural programming. This month WPL traveled with the community to Washington D.C. to visit the National Museum of African American History, which enabled us to share a positive historical cultural experience with our residents in the nation’s capital; WPL partnered with the Long Island Nets Basketball Team as it marked the launch of its new Read to Achieve Program, with WPL being the first reading site; the tweens visited the Cradle of Aviation Museum, which they learned the physical science behind flying, space travel, and aviation; the Nets partnership also brought the tweens to the Nassau Coliseum for a lesson on basketball skills; the WPL Career Center held a business workshop series ranging from basic resume writing to social media skills; and WPL refined its focus on early learning with the development of programming and a materials for children ages 0-4. In addition to program and collection development, the Library Board of Trustees has been actively engaged in the search for a qualified Library Director. We look forward to announcing an update in the coming weeks.

With The Library having served the community for well over 40 years as the hub of Wyandanch, we intend to ensure that we fulfill our mission education, information, and public service to the community. With that said, we hope that you will join us in the Library for the many upcoming programs and wish you and your families a happy, healthy and safe holiday season.

Ghenya B. Grant, Esq., President
