A truly world-class entertainer, Caterina Valente is also one of the great voices of 20th century popular music. In the U.S.A. sheappeared on television with Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Perry Como, and Dean Martin. She came by her affinity for Italiansongs naturally: she was born in Paris to Italian parents.

Between 1959 and 1966 'La Grande Caterina' has recorded no less than 115 songs in her native language. This complete 4-CDedition contains all of those recordings, and… incredibly… more than 80 of them are previously unavailable on CD. A true bo-nanza for all Valente fans!

Since her first Italian hit in 1959, she charted 28 incredible hits, including Personalità and Till. This collection includes original Ita-lian compositions (from the San Remo Festival, and elsewhere), Italian versions of great international pop hits, as well as ever-greens (Italian versions of songs by Cole Porter, Hoagy Carmichael, and Victor Young, and others… A Fine Romance, When I FallIn Love, Get Out Of Town, Stardust, Blue Moon, I‘m In The Mood For Love). There’s also music from successful international mo-vies like 'Black Orpheus' ('Orfeu Negro'), 'The Umbrellas Of Cherbourg' ('Die Regenschirme von Cherbourg'), and 'One-EyedJacks' ('Der Besessene').

Further highlights include Italian versions of Bossa Nova hits from Antonio Carlos Jobim und Luiz Bonfà. Bringing her own senseof style to these classics, Caterina Valente helped to bring this Brazilian art form to the world. As a special highlight… and forthe first time on CD… this set contains the Italian version of Caterina Valente’s complete Bossa Nova album, widely regarded asa classic. It was recorded in 1963 with Luiz Bonfà.
