X'!:J5fs I, Firstly, I thank you for your letter of 26th June last and my apologies for not having written to you since then. I am pleased that you found the package of Certificates of interest and certainly have pleasure in knowing that others may find them of interest. Since my letter to you of 15th June I have been able to go to the Records Office again and have been able to trace the marriages of two of my Great Aunts, Elizabeth and Rosa. For your records I have enclosed photo copies of their Marriage Certificates but have not had the time to further any research down their family lines. The last Great Aunt, (Ellen), I have not yet traced as getting Married but will be looking for this in the future. I have also enclosed an updated copy of my "Family Tree" including the Great Aunt updates and specific dates where possible. Also I enclose a couple of Certificates that I purchased but, on receipt, realised that they were not from my Branch of the Whitlock Family. These may be of use to you. In your letter you asked how I managed to trace my Great Granfather's birthplace to Woodstock, Qxfordshire. Luckily I knew that there was a family connection in North London in the late 1800's, i.e. that the family had lived at 8, Cottenham Road, Islington. A visit to the Census Office and a trace through the 1891 Census brought to light the Family and, as you know, the Census indicated their Places of Birth. This then enabled me to get his Birth Certificate. The Census also confirmed Great Grandmothers Place of Birth and her age etc. Following up this knowledge that G/Grandfather was born in 1848 in Woodstock his Birth Certificate gave me his Father and Mother Names, Thomas (already known) and Sarah Harris(?). This is my present stumbling block as I have gone through all the Marriage Records from 1840 to 1850 and can find no trace of a "Sarah Harris". I can only assume that my reading of the Thomas 1848 Birth Certificate showing his Mother"s maiden name As "Harris" is incorrect. What I intend to do is to carry out a deeper research when next in the Records Office to see if I can connect a marriage of a "Thomas Whitlock" in the 1880 's to a lady named Sarah.' When at the Census office I made a start in going through the 1851 Census for the Woodstock area hoping to find details of Thomas Whitlock (Great Great Grandfather) and Sarah Harris. Lmfortunately I ran out of time without finding what I wanted. However I did note the following entries which you may wish to add to your database if not already included. 1851 Census.

X'!:J5fs I,

Firstly, I thank you for your letter of 26th June last and myapologies for not having written to you since then.

I am pleased that you found the package of Certificates ofinterest and certainly have pleasure in knowing that others mayfind them of interest. Since my letter to you of 15th June I havebeen able to go to the Records Office again and have been able totrace the marriages of two of my Great Aunts, Elizabeth and Rosa. For your records I have enclosed photo copies of their MarriageCertificates but have not had the time to further any research downtheir family lines. In your letter you asked how I managed to trace my GreatGranfather's birthplace to Woodstock, Qxfordshire. Maybe these tiny snippets of information may one day be of use tosomebody!

At the Records Office, when initially tracing possible Great Auntsand Uncles, I made a list of all the possibilities adding theDistrict details, Volume Nos. and Page Nos. Again I list these forreference purposes which may save somebody a little research time. This list is not comprehensive as I was mainly only looking for thenames Elizabeth, Ellen, Rosa (or Rose). Others I added as I thoughtfit.Name Year District Vol. No. Page No.

I think that is about all I can offer you at this present time. Imust say that since I have started this Family research (andincidentally my Wife is doing the same thing with her family) Ihave become quite fascinated and enJoy the challenge - even thoughin my case I havent got very far yet.

Thank you for sending your Newsletters which are extremelyinteresting and I am looking forward to the next edition. I mustadmit though that I am not quite "au fait" with your methods ofidentifications and indexings and would appreciate some guidance ifyou have the time. I enclose X some stamps for your use.

Thanking you for your interest, and with my very best wishes.

Yours very sincerely,

/16~'Peter J. Whitlock
