Overview of xStream® Automation Pack for SAP®

The xStream Automation Pack for SAP® (Automation Pack) is a software application for the xStream Suite that automates the creation and in-life management of complex, enterprise applications, whether in-house or in a service provider’s data center. This powerful new software simplifies the complexities of running, managing, maintaining, and continually optimizing mission-critical applications within the customer environment using a highly developed monitoring and reporting system of Virtual Machines (VMs), built from the ground up, which also accommodates resource providers such as SAP, HANA, Oracle, etc.

The Automation Console provides the following services:

· Operations and Administration — tools for daily operation, scheduling, planning, and automation of tasks for support, preventive maintenance, and other customizable project needs for applications and VMs

· Budgeting and Reporting — VM monitoring and consumption reporting through the patented Virtustream micro-VM (µVM), a cloud resource management technology that measures actual vs. peak VM consumption

· Technical Account Management Reporting — service level agreement (SLA) compliance, operations monitoring and reporting, and ticket tracking

· Compliance and Security — tools for security, auditing, and compliance reporting, plus risk analysis and vulnerability scanning

These services are provided within a seamless console display navigated within feature-rich dashboards. In addition to the built-in monitoring and reporting processes, users (self-service customers, managed services staff, and channel partners) can create both simple and complex customized processes using available ingredients and recipes.

This document provides descriptions of each service, the features (tiles) included, instructions for navigating and customizing features, and examples of use cases, as well as a glossary of terms.

Automation Console Components The opening screen of the Automation Console presents a toolbar across the top, a quick-access search bar, and dashboards of tiles (feature categories). When you type in the search bar, the Console dynamically filters the tiles that are displayed to match your search results by any occurrence within the string of the name of the tile(s). Results are not case sensitive and are still grouped within their respective dashboards.

Toolbar

A Home button displays on the toolbar in the upper left corner of the application screen to return to the Home page of the Automation Console. To the right, this toolbar contains a Help (?) button to provide user assistance in the form of topic-sensitive step-by-step instructions when accessed from within a tile; the main table of contents is displayed when accessed from the Home page. To the right of the Help button, the name of the active user is displayed beside a log-out button.

Dashboards

Dashboards are groups, or categories, of related reporting or actionable features. Features (tiles) are of three types: Infrastructure (VMs in the Cloud), Application landscapes (SAP® landscapes), and Technical Account Management (TAM) (support monitoring and reporting). Examples of these feature types are:

· VM Utilization by Cloud – (Infrastructure) displays VM ID, location, host name, IP address, average µVM consumption, current CPU and RAM consumption, plus health status of all of the VMs owned by the customer as filtered by the requester’s search. Specific VMs can be selected to display further details and charts based on real-time monitoring.

· SAP® Server and Database Licenses – (Application landscapes) displays all of the SAP server names, licenses, and service statuses. Specific servers can be selected for a view of details.

· Service Requests – (Technical Account Management) displays ticket ID, status, subject, priority, submitted date/time, submitter group, requester, assignee, close date/time, and closer.

Page 8: xStream® Automation Pack for SAP® User Guide · SAP®, ABAP®, SAP Fiori®, SAP HANA®, ... VMs Stopped ... Compare Configuration of Landscape Components

Each feature includes search functions pertinent to the tile type to facilitate finding a target quickly.

Budgeting and Reporting The Budgeting and Reporting dashboard includes tiles that have a financial impact, such as consumption of billable elements and configuration changes.

Technical Account Management The tiles in the Technical Account Management (TAM) dashboard provide a manager report, plus service request, and change request reporting. Most TAM tiles include ticket ID, status, subject, priority, submitted date/time, submitter group, requester, assignee, close date/time, and closer name or ID.

Operations and Administration The Operations and Administration dashboard provides reports and tools regarding general administration, operations, and monitoring of SAP® landscapes and VM processes to assist in support activities and maintenance. For example, you can choose a view of all currently running SAP applications, databases (DB), operating systems (OS), or VM processes. Specific views of currently shut down or suspended systems or all VMs in a critical state are also available. Many features enable actions from the dashboard to start or stop SAP systems, change passwords, execute post-processing steps, etc.

Add a Custom Tile

This dashboard is a convenient place to keep tiles you have customized to meet your workflow needs. Custom tiles can be created by clicking Save As Tile to save a subset of resources (VMs/Apps) in a new tile/feature so that you don't have to filter each time you open. Tiles can easily be added or removed, as situations change.

Example:You want a tile for reporting on virtual machines with “Tomcat” in the name.

1. Click on the VMs Running tile. 2. In the Virtual Machines search field, type “tom” – the list of virtual machines is filtered as you type resulting in

only VMs with names containing that string. 3. Click the checkbox next to VM Name to select all of the displayed VMs. 4. In the lower right corner of the page, click the Save as Tile button.

5. In the Save as Tile dialog, you may change the Title, enter a Subtitle (which will display in the tile below the

Title), and select the Group to which the tile will be added (normally the My Home group).

VMs Exceeding Average µVM Utilization

Gaining visibility into VM overutilization increases cost savings through the ability to review and quickly identify costly resources, as well as opportunities for optimization by scaling down the system, using the cloud scheduler, and/or, where applicable, using managed services. Additionally, this knowledge provides a means of better forecasting and routine monthly budgeting. The VMs Exceeding Average µVM Utilization application creates a report that yields a consolidated view of all VMs in the cloud whose µVM utilization is exceeding their weekly or monthly average by an adjustable percentage, and you can optionally filter by site, customer, and/or selected VMs.

Note: This application supports actions on vSphere only. For additional details, go to the Compliance and Security dashboard, click the App Director Documentation tile, and follow the link to the Release Notes for this product.

1. From the Budgeting and Reporting dashboard, click the VMs Exceeding Average Utilization tile. The Virtual Machines list displays with all of the VMs that are exceeding their average µVM utilization by 10%.

2. To select the average to which the current usage is compared, click the Compare with menu arrow and choose the desired number of days.

3. To change the percentage of utilization exceeded over average, click and drag the circle in the Percentage over Average bar and move it left or right, as desired. The percentage changes dynamically as the circle moves.

4. To view details of all VMs in the list, click the checkbox for the VM Name column, and then click Go to Details. 5. To view details of specific VMs, search for the desired VMs and/or filter as required for Site and/or Customer.

Click the checkbox adjacent to each VM of interest and then click Go to Details. 6. To create a customized VM tile, select VMs as in the previous step then click Save as Tile and follow

customization instructions (see the Example under Add a Custom Tile).

VMs Using an App Director License

This tile is not user interactive – it simply displays the number of VMs currently running as well as the number of VMs allowed by license. The number of VMs running is color-coded based on the maximum number of VMs allowed by license as follows:

Color Percentage of Licenses Used

Green Less than 90%

Orange 90-100%

Red 100% or above

So, if you had a license to run 20 VMs and 18 of them were running, the number 18 would be in orange indicating 90% of licensed capacity.
