Baker Hughes is the only electrical
submersible pumping (ESP) system provider
that designs and manufactures the complete
ESP system, including the power cable. The
Xtreme Performance (XP™) series cable is
designed to support extended run life for ESP
systems in the world’s most hostile oilfi eld
environments. This includes critical wells with
high workover costs, corrosive or gas laden
conditions, or high temperatures.
Our FluoroBarrier™ CEB (round) cables are
rated from -40ºF (-40ºC) to 400ºF (204ºC).
FluoroBarrier CEB can operate over a broad
temperature range using insulation that is
a specially compounded oil resistant EPDM
rubber with proven electrical properties. This
is covered with an extruded FluoroBarrier
layer to provide complete protection from
chemicals in well fl uids and gases. A
patented, high modulus jacket of breathable
oil-resistant rubber and galvanized steel
armor offer fi nal layers of protection.
The Baker Hughes CEL (round or fl at) cable
is applicable in a wide range of temperatures
from -40ºF (-40ºC) to 450ºF (232ºC). CEL
cable is the best choice for extreme downhole
conditions, featuring a special oil-resistant
EPDM rubber insulation for high dielectric
strength and excellent decompression
resistance. The CPL (fl at) cable is rated from
-40ºF (-40ºC) to 257ºF (125ºC). CPL cable
is best suited for cooler well conditions and

features a specially formulated, rugged
polypropylene insulation for damage
resistance and longer run life.
Both CEL and CPL designs employ a fatigue
and corrosion resistant lead sheath over the
insulation for maximum fl exibility and run
life. Lead sheaths are made to Baker Hughes
specifi cations and extruded on state-of-the-
art equipment, using laser diameter controls
for the highest quality and consistency.
These features make CEL and CPL cable ideal
for wells with high gas content or high levels
of CO2 or H
2S.
We employ a proprietary process to
apply the lead sheath directly over the
polypropylene insulation in CPL cables.
For additional protection on CEL cable, a
bedding tape is used to protect the lead
sheath during application of the armor. The
armor on all Baker Hughes cables is edge-
coated on all sides to provide the industry’s
best corrosion protection.
Baker Hughes Capillary (round or fl at) cable
is rated from -30ºF (-34ºC) to 450ºF (232ºC).
Capillary cable uses patented designs and
unique manufacturing methods to incorporate
one or two capillary or bubble tube lines with
the cable. This eliminates the cost of running
separate chemical treatment lines down wells.
The tubes are enclosed in a second armor
layer, which adds more mechanical protection
to the hydraulic tube and ESP power cable.
The additional armor layer allows capillary
tubes to be terminated at any desired location
without disturbing the power cable.
