Dear Sir,

re: Crogman Community Clinic :

•As I repo -ted at the last meeting of the Trustees Board, we are unable to operate the clinic. The Nurse and the Caretaker have not been paid for two months. Drug accounts are outstanding.

I must have my salary of *.147-0-0 for the last four months by Yednesdsy the ilth August, 1946, in order to meet my liab ilit ies .

You must realise you begged me to remain against my plans and decision and this caused me to lose certain appointments.

The least the Church can do is to see that my salary is paid regularly until your arrangements are complete.

Yours faithfully,

to draw your attention to a resolution passed, and published in th Rand Daily Kail in which the League decided to ask the Minister of the Interior Dr. ? .E . Donges to take drastic actions in segregating Indians from Africans resiaentialiy.

The President General has failed to acquaint himself with the aims of the League in view of the fact that he only went oat to criticise befo!e getting the full details of the matter. Seeing that he has repudiated the statement, and isanied that the sponsors could have said that in the name of the African 2*ation;- Congress.

The committee feels that the President is hand in glove with the Indians in imposing these economic difficulties on the Africans. We have also felt that the President ha3 forsaken our cause by going to the press without calling the League, for info rmation.

The committee would while jt wishes to express its loyalty tu the .President General kindly request h i 3 presence in a public meeting of the branch to be called at a very early date.

Dear Dr. Xuma,

A letter will be oublishsd in Unit itell on September 3suggesting among other things that the African National Congress might promote commercial enterprise. The letter cores from Mr. Jimmy J. Pember of New Brighton and this is what he says about it

"Another mystery to me is that the African National Congress does not embark upon a commercial and. industrial programme. Orofierband has b$en able to do this without diminishing its organisation of the Afrikaaner peoole in the politic®! field ."

I pa,ss this to you in case you may wish to comment upon the subject.

Dear Sir,

I beg to renew my application to you to address a public meeting either on Sinday the 10th or 17th October, 1948 at 10-30 a.m. I f my request is acceded to please advise me as soon as possible in oatder to enable me to give the meeting a wide publicity.

We are passing through critical times, In my considered opinion that the v«lce of the African National Congress, throught Its elected Leaders should by heard vexy ofteln, In fact a determined effort to rally the whole African people through the agencies, I .e . Its natural agencies - Ministers of religion, school teachers, etc. etc. should be made at this very juncture I do not at all agree with the opinion of the "Umte tel i-Wa-Bantu", that these leaders Should not be brought Into politics, but according to our culture, these very people are the right peorsons to encourge or to teach racial pride or race consciousness amongst the .people they lead so that children Imbibe racll pride from infancy. How far is co-operation between Indian, Colouured & Africans. We should endeavour to support individuals or bodies that maJce a dertlmened stand to oppose apartheid.
