February 2015

The Lineup

Welcome to Extra InningsDear YSB’ers,

Winter is here! It has been quite chilly here for the

past few weeks, which means we are getting

closer to warmer days!

It was an eventful fall, with many exciting things

happening on campus. Ground has broken on the

new residential colleges (near Ingalls Rink); the

scaffolding has come down from Payne Whitney

Gym, (it looks beautiful!) and there are many other

things in motion at Yale – especially for the YSB

program!

Thank you for your continued support of Yale

Softball! We look forward to keeping you informed

and hope you enjoy this issue of Extra Innings!

Bulldog Friends,

The saying “Time flies when you are having fun”

couldn’t be more appropriate for this year’s team. We

have the perfect blend of personalities, resulting in a

very close-knit group, an unmatched work ethic, and a

few laughs here and there to keep us loose.

Our team is young but very talented this year! We

return 8/9 starters, and with our new crop of

freshmen, we have a lot of options with lineups. I

expect there to be a lot of juggling of the lineup early

in the season until we find the one that gives us the

most success. What an adventure it will be!

Our workouts have shown the work that has been put

in this year. We have players knocking several seconds

off their conditioning standards, and have set some

new program records with a few of our lifts. This team

is on a mission, and has the numbers to prove it!

Our annual fundraising is coming along! We areexcited to introduce the BY THE NUMBERSCHALLENGE – which will kick off in dramaticfashion our first weekend of games – February 20th.The video message from 2015 Team Captain SarahOnorato and our other seniors, who will give you therundown, is on the next page. We know we have a

competitive group – but we’ll see just how competitiveyou are!

Lastly, attached you will find a flier with details aboutone of our own, Meredith (Parks) Lewis who is in needof a bone marrow transplant due to her recentdiagnosis. Her teammates have banded together andprovided a lot of support, and we are doing the samehere. We will host (along with the football team) a BeThe Match drive on April 16 to help the cause.

Every day the sun is out a little bit longer, and the daysof coming to work in the dark, and leaving in the darkare over. Well, sometimes I’m still here in the dark butthe days are getting longer!

Sincerely,

Jen Goodwin

If you donated since July 1 – your donation will be put towards your

team’s total.

Your team consists of the numbers you see below. If you have

family and friends who want to help your team, they can donate

and put in the notes section: “BY THE NUMBERS #___”

We will send out updates bi-weekly with the new leaders and team

Meredith Parks Lewis Meredith is a 29 year old woman who was healthy until

her recent symptoms and diagnosis of acute undifferentiated leukemia. She was married last year; is

a resident physician in Radiology, an Ivy League graduate, and a collegiate athlete; and she loves musical

theatre. She is currently undergoing intensive chemotherapy but needs a bone marrow transplant to

achieve a cure.

An online donor drive has been scheduled to increase

the pool of donors in hopes of finding a life-saving

match for Meredith and all of the patients in need.

A simple cheek swab is all that is needed to determine if

you could be a MATCH for patients with leukemia,

lymphoma and other diseases who need a marrow

transplant. You could be the one to save a life.
