Top Story Welcome to Week 7 of Term 4

This week our swimming program commenced and will run until Friday 7th December. Thank you to

Mrs Woods for all her work in getting the program organised and providing another great

opportunity for the students at Yamba Public School. Students need to make sure they are organised

each day for swimming as office staff may not have the time to continually make phone calls to

parents/carers to bring items that have been left at home.

On Tuesday I was lucky enough to listen to the fantastic leadership speeches delivered by the year

five students. What impressed me the most was the fact that the majority of students focused on the

attributes of a quality leader and tried to provide examples of how they had demonstrated those

attributes as a student at Yamba Public School. Congratulations to the 32 students who had the

confidence to nominate themselves for a leadership position in 2019 and deliver a speech to an

audience of their peers, teachers and parents. The leaders elected for 2019 are;

Staff are currently writing the semester 2 reports for this year. It is envisaged that reports will go

home with students on Friday 7th November, with parent/teacher interviews held in the following

week. Those students who are absent from school during the last weeks of term will have their

reports mailed to the current address that we have on file.

In a follow up to last week’s focus on the positive things that have happened at Yamba Public School

in 2018, Mr Paul was extremely pleased to receive notification from the NSW Country Womens

Association that Yamba Public School had been awarded 1st prize in the state for their presentation

on Poland, as part of this year’s country of study project. Congratulations to Mr Paul and to all those

students involved.

Principal’s Report continues..

On Wednesday 28th November, Mr Chris Gulaptis, Member for Clarence visited Yamba Public School to make a formal presentation to

Mr Allen, Mrs Kelly plus a number of students in regards to a successful grant application. Mr Allen and Mrs Kelly were successful in

gaining a grant of $3500 to enlarge and enhance the school garden. This is the second grant that Yamba Public School has received in

2018 aimed at enhancing the facilities available to the students at our school.

I was extremely pleased to see the great positive feedback that Yamba Public School students received for their efforts in providing

music at the local markets held last weekend. Thanks to Ryan Enns who is doing such a great job with his guitar students and in helping

prepare the choir for a number of up-coming community performances. Thank you also to the parents/carers for their support in

allowing the students to participate in the weekend markets.

Week 8 is an extremely busy week with our two major award assemblies, being held on Tuesday and Wednesday. As always parents/

carers and community members are invited to attend the Sports and Citizenship assembly on Tuesday 4th December commencing at

9:30am and our major presentation assembly on Wednesday 5th December commencing at 9:30am.

This year’s Year 6 Graduation will be held on Thursday 6th December at the Yamba Golf Club. Thank you to the parent committee and to

Mrs Headon and Mr Paul for their work in putting this night together. Those wishing to attend the graduation night are reminded that

all tickets need to purchase by tomorrow , Thursday 29th November.

To our 2019 school leaders, here is some words of advice. ‘Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot. Nothing is going to get

better. It’s not’. Dr Suess

Year 5’s fun in the sun

adventures

Last week year 5 from Yamba Public School had an amazing

time at the Lake Ainsworth Sport and Recreation Centre. It

was a fun filled experience jam packed with activities that

pleased all the students. The days started with an optional

beach walk from 6:30 followed by a hearty breakfast at 7:30.

After a quick brush of teeth, activities then kicked off at 9:15

with a program of kayaking, archery, SUPing, damper

cookouts, high ropes course, sailing, snorkelling, orienteering

and swimming over the 5 days. Each day ended with night

activities whereby our school interacted with other schools also

attending the camp from around QLD and NSW and took

part in structured games run by quality facilitators. It was a

fantastic team building experience where the students

challenged themselves and supported each other to achieve
