YBC Team Challenge

• Teams of 3-4 members – each working in different medium

• Theme: Critters

• Teams formed in March . . . Reveal in September

• Critters were on display and offered at auction during

our October 2013 Fall Into Fine Craft show

• Raised $980 for the Center of American Craft

Ark of Art Team: Menagerie Montage Makers

Patty Lambert Marshall – Clay Joan Rhodes – Metal and clay jewelry Chris Starry - Fiber

Distinctions: • Team “. . . rushed to the

challenge of saving as many (critters) as we could . . . “

• Team chose “ the most colorful mode of transportation . . . to brighten their spirits as these magnificent creatures roamed the world looking for a safe place to land . . . “

Bob, The Lone Star Warrior

Team: We’re Full of Surprises Ann Boncal – Bead Jewelry Lois Quigley – Fiber Bob Triplett - Wood

Distinctions: • Team overcame

challenge of member who had a “broken heart” and needed multiple bypass surgery

• The fiber and jewelry artisans incorporated wood in the design and named their critter “Bob” to salute their wounded teammate

Bubbles: The Creature of Children’s Lake

Team: Bubble Trouble Nancy Crochet – Fiber Richelle Dourte – Jewelry Gay Foltz - Wood

Distinctions: • Inspiration comes from

Children’s Lake in Boiling Springs, which is fed by a bubbling spring – “In the wee hours of a moonless night a fearsome creature called Bubbles emerges from her underwater lair . . . . “

• Bubbles is kinetic and moves via the “crank” on the left

Garcon

Team: Gothic Creations Limited Dan Hayward – Fused and Stained Glass Connie Hollenbaugh – Copper Diane Troutman – Polymer Clay Sculpture

Distinctions: • Garcon is a juried member, International

Guild of Gargoyles, and is well-known for a refined “artistic voice”, a mastery of “resolved design” and “high quality of craftsmanship”

• Voted by YBC Members: Most Outrageous

• Winner: Best in Show at 2013 Fall Into Fine Craft show

HEBOCO Team: HEBOCO

Angela Heim – Fine Jewelry Dave Bowman – Wood Debbie Cornman - Painter

Distinctions: • Project began with one team

member in the hospital, and team thought chance of completion was “when pigs fly”

• HEBOCO rotates via the crank

• Voted by YBC Members: Pet you would most want to adopt

Home JELKmade

Team: JELKmade Jenny Germann – Woodburning Elaine Haag – Fiber Leslie Halaby-Moore – Chain Maille Kim Swenson – Bead Weaving

Distinctions: • This is a wall hanging . . .

but not for the faint of heart

• It is actually a critter habitat populated by a variety of “creepy crawlies”

Kingsford Team: Natural Fusion

Nolly Gelsinger – Lampwork glass Paula Lewis – Copper enamel Jason Lyons – Found object sculpture

Distinctions:

• Dragon form evolved because two team members like it “hot” with torch and kiln

• Most geographically dispersed team

Rosie Team: FuGerLeigh

Margie Fultz – Crochet Evan Germann – Wood Richelle Leigh Walk - Jewelry

Distinctions: • Rosie is a “bionic beauty”

complete with a computer chip brain (tucked in top drawer)

• Each drawer contains another part of Rosie’s anatomy

• Voted by YBC Members: Most Humorous

Time Flies Team: EJ Critter

Jennifer Daggs – Glass Jewelry Erin Keck - Steampunk

Distinctions: • Time Flies came to life

around a table littered with found objects, complimented later with kiln-formed items

• The inner clock works move, courtesy of a solar-powered turntable
