rainbow open reading room -‐-‐ Shenyang Public Library addi-on
This project is made for Shanyang City, the capital of Liaoning province. The city is extremely gray due to the air pollu-on and cement concrete buildings. The center theme of design is to make the reading environment to be bright, upliJing, colorful, using translucent, light and light reflec-ve materials. Rainbow is both a metaphor of bring in more nature to the air of the city as well as to insert more colorful element to this gray city. color of city analysis
Shenyang city best represents the problem of fast growing ci-es in China: pollu-on, concrete high-‐rise, giving strong feeling of heavy and oppressive. Most -me, the en-re city is covered with gray and dirty air. The city library is centrally located on the side of busy street. It is lacking of friendly atmosphere, and represents itself as a dead building surrounded by crazy city noise.

Interior design "rainbow glass" is made of special non-‐flammable material. It changes color and paWern under the sunlight day and provide light at the night without the need for electricity.

02 Low Cost Bicycle Parking Sta-on
In the middle of 20 century, there were 2.6 billion people and 50 million cars in the world. Within the last 50 year, we have doubled the size of popula-on and increased the number of car by 10 -mes more. It is expected, in 25years, the number of car will reach one billion. China also faces threat of fast growing number of cars. Globally, the biggest problem to pollute the air is from cars, not from factories.

Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts administra-ve building was designed and built in 1958 when socialist government’s agenda and Soviet Union design idea worked well together in this building. It has three floors, two court yards behind. Over many years social changes, It remains to have it's own cultural flavor and na-onal dignity. It is heavy and beau-ful, and is regarded as the most significant example of classical campus architecture in China. We have a team of eight students, spending one month to finish the making of the model. This project has gave us an opportunity to study the design, structure and building technology of 1950's architecture.

The duality of the transparent materials: it opens the privacy to the public so to make people feel insecure. But when my body was covered by the transparent plas-c wrap, they made me feel safe and worm. Plas-c wrap func-ons as skin preserving my body temperature while providing my body a protec-on from the cold weather and snow. In this research, I have experimented glass, plas-c wrap, mesh, silk, and net, realizing the transparent materials can be promising materials in the Northern China where the weather is very cold in winter because they can preserve the heat made by sunlight coming through the materials.
