Year 1 Term 3 2019 Imagine, Discover, Together ‘Commitment – Nothing without Effort’ The 4C’s Courtesy Cooperation Consideration Common Sense I am showing courtesy for my school when I take pride in myself and in my uniform. I am showing cooperation when I work as part of a team. I am showing consideration for others and myself when I am resilient and bounce back. I am showing common sense when I only use my iPad for learning and stay on appropriate school apps. Key Learning Areas English Maths Science HASS STEM The Arts HPE Exploring Rhyme Students will explore rhyme and alliteration in the story ‘The Gruffalo.’ They will innovate on a character description using similar rhyming patterns and vocabulary. They will express an opinion on their preferred character. Sight Word Vocabulary Students engage in daily activities to recognise or identify words in meaningful contexts through authentic experiences, shared stories and writing and through sight word games. Literacy Blocks – InitialLit1 Students will be engaged in daily literacy blocks that incorporate phonemic awareness, decoding and spelling activities using children’s literature. They will be explicitly taught reading comprehension, decoding and spelling strategies. Quick Writes and Handwriting Students will experiment with writing through daily quick writes and handwriting practice. Assessment: Innovation on a character description Short presentation – The Gruffalo Students will be learning to: Represent and record 2 digit numbers Solve simple addition and subtraction problems Explore counting sequences Compare and measure length and capacity Describe and order coins Computational Fluency Students are explicitly taught number fact strategies and will participate in games and number talk focussing on the relationship between addition and subtraction and near doubles. Assessment Measure to order A handful of beads On time Pantry Puzzle What changes occur in our sky and environment over time? Students will compare and describe the changes that occur in the features of the day sky and landscape. Assessment: Collage Test What are the features of places and how have they changed? Students will explore the features of places and consider whether they are natural, managed or constructed. They will also explore pictorial maps of familiar places. Assessment: Guided inquiry – Features of a place Can I program a Bluebot to complete a series of challenges? Linking with English students will program a bluebot robot using their iPads to move around a mat using directional language, position and locations. Assessment Programming challenge Different Places Students explore a range of songs, rhymes and changes based on the theme of different places. Themes include personal, familiar world, weather, seasons, landscapes and the built environment. These use these themes as stimuli for making and responding to music. Assessment Collection of work Health and HPE Students will focus on hand- eye co- ordination and striking skills through participation in a modified cricket unit. Throughout this program, students will develop and consolidate throwing and catching skills by completing various activities. Students will also work through the Daniel Morcombe Child Safety Curriculum.
