Options/Expectations
• Employment: minimum age is 16 (full time)• Apprenticeships/Traineeships:
minimum = completed a sound Yr 10• TAFE: minimum = completed a sound Yr 10.
Many courses require Yr 12, some with an• VCAL: Depending on institution, can begin
Yr10 or Yr11. • University = completed Yr 12 with exams,
generating an ATAR score
Course StructureEach student studies 12 Units over the year: 2 Units of English/ESL (one in each semester) 2 Units of Maths (one in each semester) 1 Unit from Humanities 1 Unit from Science 1 Unit Health & Physical Education 5 Units selected by the student to create their
individual course

In 2012 65% of Year 10 students are undertaking a VCE Unit
VET – What is it?
Two-year program combining VCE studies and accredited Vocational Education and Training.
Completion of a nationally recognised vocational qualification and the VCE at the same time.
Students undertake a Structured Workplace Learning placement.
There is a materials cost associated with each course.
VET as part of VCE VET courses count as VCE Units
o first year = Units 1 & 2 o second year = Units 3 & 4
All completed (1st & 2nd year) VET courses contribute to the ATAR, either through scored assessment (study score) or block credit (10% increment)

at NCAT@Northland Secondary College or Santa Maria College.
WHEN?
Wednesday afternoons
Students will travel independently to the host school for a 1:30pm start.
Student access to these courses will depend on timetable considerations in relation to other subjects selected.
