GCSE English Language
Both exams are at the end of year 10
20% of the course is oracy (recorded)
10% individually researched presentation – already achieved for most students at end of year 9 with huge success!
10% interacting and responding (discussion)
80% is externally examined
Unit 2 (40%) description, narration or exposition, including editing and proof-reading, and a choice of 2 writing tasks
Unit 3 (40%) persuasion and argumentation and 2 pieces of writing
Writing accuracy features as 50% of all writing tasks (sentence structure, punctuation, spelling and grammar)
SkillsStudents will be regularly assessed.
The language papers test a variety of reading and writing skills, and the reading section
includes both continuous and non-continuous, texts, both fiction and non-fiction.

The New Specifications
Your son or daughter will be sitting the Mathematics GCSE examination in June 2018 and the Mathematics - Numeracy GCSE examination in November 2018.
They are the third year group to sit the new double GCSE.
There are two papers for Mathematics-Numeracy and two papers for Mathematics.
The first paper of each is Non-Calculator and the second is Calculator allowed.
Mathematics-Numeracy focuses on the application of Mathematics with questions being put into a real life context. Very detailed worded questions.
Mathematics covers a wider range of topics and is assessing pupils knowledge and understanding of Mathematical Methods.

• Mathematics Unit 1 Non Calculator Thursday 24th May 2018 (AM)
• Mathematics Unit 2 Calculator Thursday 7th June 2018 (AM)
• Mathematics-Numeracy Unit 1 November 2018
• Mathematics-Numeracy Unit 2 Calculator November 2018
All Foundation examinations are 1 hour 30 minutes and all Intermediate and Higher Tier examinations are 1 Hour 45 Minutes.

The best way to revise Mathematics is to practise questions as opposed to
reading through notes.
A bank of past papers will be added to the school website.

After school and lunchtime revision available for all tiers starting after Christmas, details will be sent out via parentmail.
Additional intervention lessons being run with our numeracy specialist.
Revision sessions during May half term.
Weekly past papers being set for homework and item level feedback given for completed papers.

The New Science Specifications
Your son or daughter will be sitting Science examinations in
June 2018.
They will be the second cohort of pupils to sit these
examinations.
Double award Science consists of 6 papers and a practical
exam. 2 GCSE grades are awarded.
Triple award Science also consists of 6 papers and a
practical exam. 3 GCSE grades are awarded.
