Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace.

Where there is hatred, let me sow love;

where there is injury, pardon;

where there is doubt, faith;

where there is despair, hope;

where there is darkness, light;

where there is sadness, joy.

O, Divine Master, grant that I may not so much

seek to be consoled as to console;

to be understood as to understand;

to be loved as to love;

For it is in giving that we receive;

it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;

it is in dying that we are born again to eternal life

What are OPs?

An OP or Overall Position is a student's statewide rank based on overall achievement

It indicates how well the student has done in comparison to all other OP-eligible students in Queensland.

It gives a students rank order based on overall achievement in Authority subjects for the purposes of tertiary entrance only.

Pathways

Page 25: YEAR 11 & 12 - Marymount College Burleigh Waters · 2018-07-30 · Calculating OPs Scaling uses QCS test means (averages) and mean differences (measures of spread) - A student's individual

Calculating OPs

Scaling uses QCS test means (averages) and mean differences (measures of spread) - A student's individual QCS Test result is not used in the calculation of their OP.

A student's grade on the QCS Test will increase or decrease the mean for the groups they are part of. They must do their best to maximize the increase or minimize the decrease to the mean caused by their result.

The best 5 re-scaled SAIs are added and averaged to calculate a student’s Overall Achievement Indicator – OAI.

The best re-scaled OAIs get OP1. The next best get OP2 and so on based on the spread of Ops shown earlier. There are 25 OP bands.

Page 26: YEAR 11 & 12 - Marymount College Burleigh Waters · 2018-07-30 · Calculating OPs Scaling uses QCS test means (averages) and mean differences (measures of spread) - A student's individual

Subject Achievement Indicators (SAIs)

• SAIs are calculated by school for largegroups (14 or more) and submitted to QCAA

• Small and intermediate groups the Level of Achievement (LOA) and rung number (1 – 10) are submitted for the calculation process

• Shows one student’s achievement in relation to the achievement of other students in that subject in that school. (400 – 200)

How do students find out their SAIs?

Each OP-eligible student is awarded an SAI for each subject studied.

Posted up by Wednesday after final day for Year 12

students

Students and their parents are encouraged

to check SAI’s and discuss any queries they may

have with their teachers and their school administration

More information will be provided in Term 4 with the

Provisional Statement - don’t ignore must check

Field Positions (FPs)

Field Positions (FPs) are additional rank orders that supplement an Overall Position (OP)

The term "field" refers to areas of emphasis in the senior curriculum

FPs are used by tertiary institutions to provide greater differentiation between students in an OP band, for example, when the number of eligible applicants exceeds the number of places for a course

Pathways

Field Positions (FPs)

Pathways

Field Aextended written expression involving complex analysis and synthesis of

ideas

Field Bshort written communication involving reading, comprehension and

expression in English or a foreign language

Field Cbasic numeracy involving simple calculations and graphical and tabular

interpretation

Field D solving complex problems involving mathematical symbols and abstractions

Field Esubstantial practical performance involving physical or creative arts or

expressive skills.

A student may receive up to 5 FPs, depending on subject choices. FPs are reported in 10 bands, from 1 (the highest) to 10 (the lowest) in the following fields:

Queensland Core Skills (QCS)

The Queensland Core Skills Test (QCS) is:

• Developed by the Queensland Curriculum & Assessment

Authority(QCAA)

• Administered by schools

• A statewide scaling test for Queensland Year 12 students

• An achievement test, not an intelligence or aptitude test

• Used in the calculation of OPs and QTAC Selection Ranks
