Exam structure

Preparation work (from 1st January) and exam work will be marked together and have a 40% weighting of the final grade.

The coursework deadline is 19th May. This is 60% of the final grade.

Revision opportunities and resources available in school

There is a whole day booster session on Tuesday 11th April 10.00am-4.00pm, where students will continue working on their prep work for the exam.

A large portrait workshop (AO3 booster) will be held in the dance studio on Wednesday 3rd May 3.30pm-6.30pm with Miss Tobolkiewicz.

Key tips

The final piece must have a link to the artist and examquestion. A high level of skill will be required.

Exam paper structure

The paper is worth 100 marks in total. 6-8 compulsory questions comprised of short answer structured questions and free response essay style questions. Some questions may include stimulus material where information is provided and students have to analyse the topic in question.

Revision opportunities and resources available in school

Students are encouraged to access period 6 on a Monday after school in L1 food room which provides revision opportunities and assistance with exam technique. There is also a revision session during the Easter holidays where time will be allocated for revision purposes and also to make improvements to controlled assessment where applicable. This will be Wednesday 19th April 10.00am-1.00pm.

Students in Food have also been provided with work booklets and revision aids to assist their revision and have been set regular independent learning/homework opportunities to further their learning. The food room currently has a set of laptops which are available for use during lesson times and also during period 6, as well as a range of textbooks and work booklets for students to access. The LRC also has a range of books that would be aimed at particular areas relating to food, cooking and the diet.

Revision sessions

In order to ensure you achieve the very best possible grade it is necessary to attend weekly revision sessions. Revision sessions are currently being offered to year 11 pupils on Thursday lunchtimes and Wednesdays 3.30pm-4.30pm.

Revision materials

• Regular and timely revision is essential in both ensuring adequate knowledge of the topics covered and to deepen understanding of Christian responses. Quality revision will also give pupils an opportunity to practise skills needed for the exam.

• Free printed booklets are available covering key knowledge and bible quotes for each topic, along with previous exam questions. For a charge of £1.00 students may purchase a published revisionguide covering all areas.

• A Youtube channel has been created that contains all videos usedduring previous lessons. Videos are topical, i.e. euthanasia in thenews as well as retelling bible stories.

• Past exam papers are available at school as well as on the OCRwebsite. Please be sure to select the correct course.

Revision techniques

All students will find the method of revision that best suits them.Some may prefer to mind map whilst others may prefer tocomplete revision cards or test their knowledge using‘look-cover-check’. Pupils should be spending at least 20to 30 minutes at a time revising.

Exam paper structure

You are taking ‘Route 2’ which involves a total of four 1.5 hour exams across Core and Additional Science. Each exam has aspects of Biology, Chemistry and Physics in it. This means you need to balance your revision across the three areas of science, not just on one particular subject!

Support from the academy

Study support sessions are available after school weekly 3.15pm-4.15pm.

Study sessions are available before school or at lunch times (please speak to your science teacher).

It is essential to attend a weekly session (before school, at lunch time or after school) to ensure you are continuously revising Core Science topics.

Homework is provided weekly - this is a great opportunity to complete practise exam questions.

Extra work is always available - please speak to your teacher.

Revision tips

• Go through lesson work again – highlight key points, make extrarevision notes and complete extra questions on the topics as necessary. Extra topic questions are available from your teacher.

• Ensure that you have acted on your feedback points from the formative assessments and examination papers – this is your opportunity to review any specific points you are unsure on.

• Ask your teacher for extra copies of the examination papers so that questions can be completed again, and see what has been remembered or improved on.

Revision guides

Revision guides are available from your science teacher for £1.00 each (RRP £5.95) - one for core and one for additional. Use the revision guide to find the key information and make revision notes (e.g. mind maps and revision cards). Then try an exam paper on that section. Trying the exam questions is really important to check you can apply your understanding.
