Year 2-Term 4 NewsletterDear Parents,
Next term is our final busy term for this year and it plans to be another exciting one!
Our big focus in Term 4 will be in physical science, exploring motion, gravity, push and pull, and light and sound. We will be observing the way different objects move; on hard surfaces, in water and in the air. We will be conducting experiments to test out our predictions and collecting and recording data and making summaries of our observations. This unit will be followed by our Advent unit, preparing the students for the coming of Jesus at Christmas time.
In Maths, we will be exploring mapping and location, money problems, place value and developing flexibility and confidence with the 4 operations to solve number and word problems. We will also investigate statistics, probability and chance and finish off the year with small measurement activities, followed by 3 weeks of problem solving covering all mathematical concepts covered this year. Mental maths and exploring mental strategies will be a part of our daily maths sessions.
In Literacy, we will continue our weekly grammar and spelling rules lessons as a whole class and in our CAFE reading groups. We are building independent reading stamina and continuing our listening comprehension through our class text ‘The BFG’ by Roald Dahl. We will introduce the children to the 4 elements of VCOP this term in preparation for Year 3 and focus on the genre writing of procedural texts.

RemindersSEESAW: We have loved posting our learning this semester on Seesaw. We would love to continue to see encouraging comments on each students posts.
Homework: Please encourage your child to make sure they are reading for at least 15 minutes every night and keep an accurate record in their reading diary. The reading diary needs to be at school every Thursday and the homework book is fortnightly.
