Recruiting for Excellence Texas Tech’s position as a top-tier research university depends on the size, scope, and quality of graduate enterprise. The Graduate School has a number of programs that help attract and support top-quality graduate students

Recruitment Efforts Recruitment Fellowships The Graduate School’s recruiting efforts bring Texas Tech to a diverse range of prospective graduate students.

• State, national, and international recruiting events

• Assisting academic departments with their recruitment efforts

• Utilizing online recruiting platforms • Connecting with working professionals as well as with prospective graduate students.

• Presidential Fellowships provide a stipend of $34,000, tuition and small research and travel allowance for up tp five tears Nine new fellows were funded last year

• Recuitment Fellowships augment department stipends for up to four years for doctoral students in order to make competitive offers.

• 118 recruitment fellowships were awarded last year

Application Statistics

• 42% of the applicants accepted• 38% of doctoral applicants accepted • Since academic year 2012-2013, Verbal GRE scores have

increased from 47th to 60th percentile and Quantitative GRE scores have increased from 35th to 60th percentile.

Fellowships • 250 fellowship awards ranging from $500 - $30,000 are available

to new and continuing students, both full-time and part-time, on a competitive basis.

• Doctoral Dissertation Completion Fellowship awards enable doctoral students near the end of their programs to focus exclusively on their dissertation research to facilitate degree completion. Twenty -eight awards were offered last year.

• The Graduate School assists students developing and submitting fellowship applications to external sponsors (e.g., National Science Foundation).

Graduate Student Research Support Program The Graduate Student Research Support Program, offered in collaboration with The CH Foundation, the Graduate Student Advisory Council, and Parent and Family Relations, provides up to $40,000 to assist students with research-related expenses.

Student Travel Program This program matches department support to enable graduate students to present their work at professional conferences. 485 students were supported.

The Graduate School cultivates and facilitates international agreements for collaboration, student exchange, and joint degree programs. Some 145 new agreements have been made since 2013.

Advancing Student Success The Graduate School is committed to helping students succeed in their programs and to assurre they have the skills they need to enter and succeed in the workforce.

Professional & Career Development National surveys of employers and of our alumni indicate the need for

professional development. Our program develops competencies in six core areas. Over 500 events were held

during 2018-19.

Student Life Activities Regular social events and group

activities, such as stress management sessions, occur multiple times throughout the

semester.

The Graduate Center facility is dedicated exclusively for use to Texas Tech’s Graduate Students and Postdoctoral Fellows. The center is located at the heart of the Lubbock campus and serves as a hub for professional and career development and graduate

student and postdoctoral life activities.A coffee bar along with student support and academic support services are available, including the Graduate

Writing Center and Statistical Consulting Services.
