The Environmental Monitoring Team is a core function at ORC, providing vital information to other parts of the organisation and customers to support the management of Otago’s natural resources. An exciting opportunity now exists for a highly capable network management and maintenance professional to join ORC. Could this be you?

About the opportunity Reporting to the Manager Environmental Monitoring, your primary purpose is to manage the planning, delivery and maintenance of Otago Regional Council’s environmental monitoring network – ensuring that the assets are fully functioning so that data can be collected and reliably used for everyday decision making and to assist ORC in making long-term decisions. In doing this, the Network Infrastructure Lead will:

⋅ Lead the planning for the physical monitoring network - exploring innovative and strategic thinking to ensure achievement of objectives while championing ORC’s safety culture.

⋅ Manage maintenance, installation and renewal programmes for the environmental monitoring network - ensuring assets perform now and into the future.

⋅ Manage relevant supplier relationships - ensuring adherence to contract deliverables and safety compliance.

⋅ Work closely with the Team Leader Monitoring and wider Council teams to understand future requirements for the environmental monitoring network.

⋅ Be a champion for safety and wellbeing – actively supporting a culture of safe and responsible behaviours and attitudes.

This is a critical role that requires a combination of technical talent and a strong understanding of asset management principles, to lead the current and future performance of the physical monitoring network. Interested?

About you To be successful in this role, you will bring a can-do attitude of planning for the future and delivering today. Further, you will be a strong advocate for change and improvement. Knowledge of legislative requirements for health and safety and experience with environmental monitoring, will be key. Purpose The Otago Regional Council has a physical environmental monitoring network across Otago to collect information on the region’s natural environment. The purpose of Network Infrastructure Lead is to manage the delivery and maintenance of this network.

The Network Infrastructure Lead will provide advice to the Manager Environmental Monitoring and General Manager Strategy, Policy & Science as required, with regard to current and planned environmental monitoring activity.

Planning

Lead the planning for the physical monitoring network. Work with Council Teams to understand the future requirements for the monitoring network. Work with the senior monitoring technicians to design monitoring sites.

Asset Management

Manage maintenance, installation and renewal programmes for the environmental monitoring network. Manage the assets and equipment associated with installation and maintenance of the network. Undertake technological investigations to ensure good practice data collection from network equipment.

• ORC has good practice asset

management for its physical environmental monitoring network.

• ORC is aware of technological

advancements and is well placed to benefit from their use.

• The Team Leader Monitoring is

informed of maintenance programmes so staff can be assigned.

Contract Management

Identify, develop and manage any contracts to deliver: o Network maintenance; o Laboratory analysis; o Monitoring activities.
