Women were supposed to be good housewives
stay home and do all the women-like duties and chores
have kids and listen to their husband.
What Jane Addams did to challenge this norm was she went to and finished college
Opened Hull House that catered to the needs of the poor, she also advocated for social reform issues relating to housing and sanitation needs and work related problems.
Some of the consequences for her beliefs was that she was criticized for her beliefs by other as being too radical and being deviant. Some of the benefits was that she was the first women to receive the Nobel Peace Prize and her ideas still exist today.
Her father encouraged her to pursue a higher education and instill in her a strong work ethic
later found inspiration in a settlement house in London called Toynbee Hall, which helped her open Hull House.
