Maybe I'm the only one to think the Kennedy/Pomeranz trade is a very bad trade, but I want to speak my peace about

it anyways in case there is some reasoning I'm not seeing.

The Braves traded Gio Gonzalez last year for Ian Kennedy and a 1st and 2nd round rookie pick. At the time, I didn't

think the trade was full value for Gio, but it wasn't "veto-worthy" either. However, I really don't understand this deal

as Kennedy is a top 30 starting pitcher and arguably 100 fantasy player while Kyuji may be the closer at some point

this year, but his value is very risky and unknown and Pomeranz is fighting for the 5th rotation spot on a terrible team

and has over a 1.4 WHIP and 5 ERA in 26 career starts in the majors. I don't have any faith that Pomeranz will ever be

able to live up to the top prospect expectations he had a few years ago and again, the risk is very high that he even

makes a rotation spot, let alone be a productive fantasy player.

I just don't see how this is really a even or fair deal as to me it is very lopsided. I hate comparing past trades that

were vetoed so I won't name specifics, but I do feel that there have been better, more even and fair trades that were

vetoed in the past so I would be surprised if this one isn't as well. Maybe the other trades were vetoed for other

reasons other than the actual players involved in the trades, but I just feel like this trade would be hurting an already

pretty depleted Braves team. I'm all for allowing owners to make their own decisions, but since that hasn't happened

in the past and we do have the voting system in place (let alone Ron not having a full fantasy season in the league

under his belt), I feel like I needed to say something. If all other owners disagree and thinks it is good for league and

helps parity, then okay, but I just don't see that as the case with this particular trade.

I won't speak for Ron on this trade, but this is from my point of view. There was no discussion on this deal. I emailed

Ron last night about the availability of Kennedy, and he proposed the deal this morning. I'm not going to question how

Ron values players, because it's his opinion and his team. To me, every trade is a risk, because we don't know what is

going to happen with each player in the future.

If you want to downgrade the impact of Fujikawa, that's fine because relievers can be pretty unpredictable as far as

their production goes year to year. Do I think he will be really good and be the Cubs closer this year and in the future?

Yes, but that's my opinion. I totally disagree with you on your assessment of Pomeranz. He was a 1st round pick in

2010, and just last year, was still projected as a top of the rotation kind of pitcher by people that get paid to study

baseball players. He has struggled so far, I won't deny that. Whether you want to say he just sucks and has no

future, or the fact the Rockies went with a 4 man rotation, and put a 75 pitch limit on all their starters, and rushed him

through the system, is up to you. To totally write him off though is premature to me. He is the favorite to start the

year in the rotation. He's also 24, and not every pitcher is awesome right off the bat. For the sake of my team, I wish

that were true because I have young pitchers everywhere and would love for them to be immediately great.

Also, I think Ron's time in this league has nothing to do with anything. He's been in this league for months now, and is

no stranger to fantasy baseball. I'm pretty sure he wasn't in the league even a week when he was emailed about

players a lot better than Ian Kennedy. I've certainly never tried to screw anybody in this league or any league over

the years, not looking to start now. If the commish and the league deems this trade bad, then that's fine. I'm not

looking to make a big deal out of this, if Ron wants to we can make it work and bring it back to the league.

I didn't veto the Votto deal, but I think I can tell you a few reasons why it was vetoed. I completely understand buying

into Puig since the guy is a physical specimen. However the best comparison I've seen with Puig to someone who is in

the bigs is Cespedes. Now, just for a minute, let's buy into Puig reaching that Cespedes ceiling. Puig is a reported 22

years old now and Cespedes is 27 so let's give Puig the benefit of the doubt and say he reaches that ceiling by age

25. Votto is currently 29. Votto's production now is higher than Cespedes and he plays at a more premium position. So

let's say you trade Votto who produces at an All Star level for the next five years for Puig who likely won't reach his

potential for another two to three years. In this deal, you are gambling on Puig not only reaching his potential, but

Votto's production falling off a cliff in a short time. I didn't veto it because sometimes a prospect can be worth it, but

that is a very risky deal. And this doesn't get into the other pieces which basically equates to Cain and parts for Josh

Johnson. Personally, I wouldn't do the deal, but again, I didn't veto.

The other reason for the quick veto (my apologies Aaron) is because it involves the Brewers getting the best player in

the deal. It's that simple.

Finally, I have to have a quick rant. Full disclosure, I love prospects. I love having a stacked farm team because you

can dream that it is full of future all stars. The reality of it though is most prospects don't pan out. And when they do,

you get an average fourth outfielder or sixth starter. At one point, I though Vin Mazzaro would live up to the same

hype as Cahill and Brett Anderson. Hell, one time I thought Brett Anderson would live up to Brett Anderson. Luke

Hoechvar was a number one pick. Tim Beckham was a number one pick. Andrew Lambo was the top player in the

Dodgers farm team once upon a time. Point is, no matter how hyped they are, they're still prospects. Lately, it seems

....this league has gotten so out of hand that the price for a high prospect is a straight up deal for an All Star. Owners

seem to have forgotten that the point of this league is to win, not to play for the future. And as long as teams are

dealing their star players straight up for a prospect, the rich will continue to get richer and the poor will continue

emptying their accounts to buy lottery tickets.

I understand completely and I have mentioned to several about trading for prospects and what not. However my

team isn't going anywhere anytime soon. For every all star I have I have like 5 waiver wire guys. I'm 1-7 getting no

where fast with agonz, kemp, & Votto. Traded kemp got good value I think. It's really difficult to put a value on Votto

but I will say this that was the best offer I had received that's a fact. And once again I know it wasnt the best deal for

me but what is?? Between prospects & people flipping out about SP what can I do with guys like Adrian Gonzalez &

Joey Votto?? I have to try to get 2 or 3 for 1 with like a top prospect too. It got vetoed that's fine I will move on. It

happens just wanted some input

If anyone already read all that discussion. Please disregard. I was 100% wrong. I'm deleting so no one gets confused

and to not clutter the trade thread. To summarize:

You can trade protections. If you trade for a protection you can either use it on your parent draftee OR the team's

draftee whose protection you acquired.

Further, as Jeremy pointed out, as per July 27th thread from last year, protections go to rookie team instead of AA

team this year.
