You Are the Light of the World!

November 2019 Monthly Publication of Garden City Baptist Church Volume 32 Number 11

An older version of the church’s logo has recently experienced a makeover to reflect our mission. During the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus says of his followers, “You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden.” As we focus on the Lord Jesus - the Light of the World, his light shines forth from us. We as a church do what do because of who we are. We serve the community, share the gospel, and love one another because of who we are in Christ. If you would like a car sticker with the remade logo, they are available at the “Connection Center” in the church’s lobby. Remember who you are and reflect the light of Christ as you drive, do business, go to work, eat out, and live life. We give a special thank you to Melissa Reese and Wholesale Boutique for designing the remake free of charge to us.

Dear Garden City Family, We are blessed to serve alongside of you each day. Our desire is to grow with you in our love for Jesus and commitment to the gospel. Thank you for showing your support this month through the many encouraging words, delicious food, and generous gifts. May our light continue to shine brighter in the days ahead. With Love and Affection, Pastor Charlie, Ashley, Alayna, Julianna, and Josie

Fall Festival 2019 Hundreds and hundreds from the community joined us for our annual Fall Festival. We served well over five-hundred hotdogs, gave away millions of calories worth of candy, and had a great time loving our neighbors. Norris Short acted the role of Jonah stuck in the belly of a whale for our first ever escape room. Thanks to all of the volunteers who worked tirelessly to make this event happen… and who quickly cleaned up afterwards to make it look as if it never did!

Lynch, Kentucky - Eric and Sissy Rutherford September 23-27, Tish and James Walker, Yoon Green and Sandy Klinke went to Kentucky to paint the 3rd floor of the old hospital there, Solomon’s Porch, now a missionary retreat center. While there we painted the equivalent of 5 large rooms to include ceilings, trim, doors, and many pipes. Due to time and material we were unable to complete job, but we will return in March to finish up. All who have seen the newly painted area are pleased. Also while there, praising Jesus, Eric got a great report from doctor stating that there is no need for any radiation or chemo needed for his health issue. Eric and Sissy hope to be here for a visit near the Thanksgiving holiday time.

The celebrated with a big parade showing their military equipment and the achievements of the last three Presidents and the present leader Xi Jing Ping. This year was different because the National flag of China was required to be hung up all over the country, you could see it everywhere. On the flag there are five stars. One large star surrounded by four smaller stars. The big star represents the Communist Party. The small stars represent farmers, workers, educated people and businessmen.
