Summer School 2016 During the Summer 2016 term, many Global Campus staff helped make seven summer events successful. Students (our own Summer School students and many students in visiting programs), faculty and staff participated in the events. We heard over and over from them how much they appreciated us being there. At the ice cream event, a student wearing a heavy backpack said gratefully, “You made my day!” More than 900 people total attended the events.

THANK YOU to everyone who helped, from MCS staff and students who kept us neat, tidy and delivered on time to Information Services and MCS staff who got the word out to students, to the APP Staff and students who came and staffed so many events, giving up their lunch hours to make summer on campus more fun for everyone. The events could not have occurred without you!

June 13 – Summer School Lemonade Stand June 20 – Photo Booth with Willie the Wildcat (and Provost Mason!) June 27 – Summer Lawn Carnival July 6 – Free Ice Pops July 13 – Water Sponge Challenge July 20 – Free Cookies from the Derb July 27 – Free Ice Cream from Call Hall

We were also fortunate to have a partnership with the AHA! The Arts and Humanities Association of Manhattan. Their summer intern attended several events, playing fun music and handing out calendars of free events in the community.

Psychology with an emphasis in Industrial and Organizational Psychology (MIOP) Another successful MIOP summer session was held the last two weeks of July. Since the Leadership Studies building was not available this year, students enjoyed the view from the Jardine Tower while learning about industrial and organization psychology and research methods. Joseph Mills Office: Information Systems, Student Developer Time at Global Campus: 2 months Hometown: Lawrence, Kansas Joseph’s Family: Mom, Dad, Sister and a Dog

Do you have any pets? I’ve got a mini aussie named Zeus.

What is something you look forward to at the beginning of the day? My cup of coffee.

What is your favorite restaurant? Bourbon & Baker is the best.

What movie are you looking forward to seeing in theaters? I’m looking forward to seeing Rogue One the night it comes out.

What was your first car? My first car was a bright yellow 2001 Nissan Frontier.

Samantha Lovitt Office: UFM Community Learning Center, Registrar/Program Assistant Time at Global Campus: 4 years Hometown: I was a military kid, so I lived in many different states, countries and continents!! I was born in Fort Huachuca, Ariz, but often refer to Junction City, Kan. as my hometown since that is where I lived the longest.

If you could spend a day with any famous person, who would it be? Jimmy Fallon!!! I often refer to myself as Samantha Fallon because he will be my husband someday ;-)

What is your most memorable summer vacation? When I lived in Germany for two years one summer, my aunt, uncle and cousins came over to visit us and we traveled all around. We met up in London, then flew to Paris, then took a train back to Germany. We did many little day trips to other countries and cities and were able to see so many amazing places. My cousins and my sister and I always kept a running list of all the funny things that happened during our vacations. Now as adults, many, many years later, we occassionally pull those lists out and get a good laugh!

What makes you smile and why? I always say with me it really is the little things that make me the happiest. A simple note stuck away somewhere that I find as a little surprise makes me smile!

What place would you like to visit? I would like to go back to Germany during Christmas! I loved it there during the winter holiday months, the smells, the food, the downtown atmosphere. It was like nothing I have experienced in the states. One place I didn’t make it to while living in Germany was Italy, so I would like to travel there as well.

What was the first job that you have ever had? I started out as a gift wrapper turned cashier and continued as the random job person at Water’s True Value Hardware.
