There are no hard and fast rules for choosing a decorative cornice style, although popular wisdom suggests that the architectural style of your home could be a suitable stylistic starting point. However, it’s actually better to select a cornice that compliments other key internal design elements such as panel doors, architraves, window frames and skirting boards. The style of your furniture is also worth considering.

For example, a contemporary designer décor with square finished window frames or chamfered skirtings would be complimented with the clean geometric lines of Jazz™ or the minimalism of ShadowSet™, where traditional furniture styles and colonial architraves

work well with the more formal curves and accents of Classic™, Concerto™ or Symphony™.

You may choose not to upgrade the cornice throughout your home. Decorative cornice can subtly enhance the sense of place in entrance halls, formal living or dining rooms while the standard use of cove cornice can easily co-exist in utility rooms and bedrooms.

As Gyprock™ cornices vary in profile depth, the height of your ceiling might also be taken into account, as a slightly smaller profile cornice can improve the perception of height and space in rooms with lower ceilings.

Style tips for choosing your cornice

ShadowSet™ creates a dramatic minimalist effect with its clean geometric lines and recessed shadow accentuating perceptions of space.
