students secured 13 First Class Honors, 8 Second Class Upper Division
Honors and two Sri Lankan students, Ms. Thamali Gunaratne and Mr.
Imthishan Mohammed Thasleem bagging the most outstanding Civil
Engineering student and most outstanding Mechatronics Engineering
student awards respectively. Out of the 40 Sri Lankan students 24 graduated
as Civil & Infrastructure Engineers, 13 as Mechatronics Engineers and 3 as
Electronics Engineers.
The excellent performance of Sri Lankan students is a tribute to the immense
efforts taken by SAITM faculty of Engineering and AIT to maintain the
academic quality and standards along with the infrastructure made available,
in par with the best in the world thus help producing high quality engineers
who will be world class professionals.
thOf those who graduated from AIT at the 119 graduation in 2013, 13
students secured 100% scholarships, 8 students 75% scholarships and 10
students 50% scholarships to pursue Masters degree in the chosen fields of
study at AIT which is a record for any university in Sri Lanka.

rd3 Annual SAITM Research Symposium on Engineering Advancements - 2013 [RSEA 2013]
SAITM Robotics Challenge 2013 concluded in a Great Success
Faculty of Engineering has successfully organized third annual research thsymposium on engineering advancements on 27 April 2013.
In fact RSEA is the pioneering and the only research symposium organized
by a non-state sector higher education institute in Sri Lanka. It will no doubt
enhance the research competencies of the SAITM engineering students
making them stand out in the engineering profession when they graduate.
The most distinguish feature of the event was the note session conducted
by three experts in the field of Engineering. Key note speeches are to be
made by Prof. M.P. Ranaweera (Emertus Professor, University of
Peradeniya), Prof. J. B. Ekanayake (of Peradeniya) and Prof. Abdul Salam
(Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand). Chairman of SAITM Dr. Neville
Fernando and Dean Faculty of Engineering Dr. Sisuru Sendanayake were
present at the event.
The event is participated by over 300 from the academia, professional and
student communities representing state universities, industries and
statuary bodies with over 50 research papers to be presented at the
sessions.
SAITM Robotic Challenge, 2013 (SRC’13) an inter university robotics
competition, organized by the Robotics Association of the Mechatronics
Engineering Department, of the Faculty of Engineering SAITM was held on
31st of May at SAITM premises and concluded in a great success.
The SRC2013 was the first of its kind to be organized by the Faculty of
Engineering, SAITM. It brought together Engineering undergraduates from
ten state as well as non-state sector universities of Sri Lanka, and they
competed for the “Dr. Neville Fernando Challenge Trophy” in a robotics
challenge designed for undergraduates, highlighting the challenges and
developments in the field of Robotics and Automation. In organizing
SRC2013, SAITM Faculty of Engineering strive to promote engineering
design at university level and encourage Sri Lankan youth to come forward
with innovative solutions to real life applications.
Undergraduates from Engineering, Science and technology disciplines from
seven state sector Universities including University of Moratuwa, University
of Peradeniya and University of Colombo participated for the event. In addition
there were participants from four non-state universities as well. A team
entered from University of Uwa Wellassa won the challenge trophy, while the
1st and 2nd runner ups were teams entered from University of Ruhuna, and
SAITM respectively.
Many academics and professionals from state universities and industries
contributed for evaluating the event with Prof. Nimal Ekanayake, (Dept. of
Electrical and Electronics Engineering, University of Peradeniya) and Prof.
Janaka Ekanayake (Dept. of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, University
of Peradeniya) holding the Chair of the panel of Judges for two sessions. Mr.
Dushyantha Rupasinghe from ABB Sri Lanka and Mr Vajira Tennakoon
representing SINGER PLC also attended the event as guests of honour.
The main sponsors of this event were SINGER PLC and ABB Sri Lanka and
official media partners for the event are Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation and
Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Ltd.
