Aug. 7—The Wadding ton, Canton & Southern Railroad company was incorporated to-day to construct a standard gauge steam road about 2$ miles long, with the following termini: A point, o n D r y Island, in St Lawrence river, near Waddington, and a point near High Falls on the Grass nv^r, in Canton, St Lawrence county. The capital is $500,000. and the directors are James Speara, John C Heeler, Henry E. Seaver. Reuben T Wells and Simeon B Bridge, of Canton; John G. Tait and William W. Proctor, of Wad- dington; Frederick J. Merriman, of Madrid; and Joseph G. Taylor, of Buffalo. near Montreal from which Latta wrote a letter to the St. Lawrence County bank on Monday, the 6th, saving that he was sorry for the salesmen and the patrons. Neither has Latta appeared: in the vicinity of Brockville or Belleville, the home of relatives of his wife, and to one of which places it was supposed that his wife had gone when she left Hunt- ingdon the latter part of last week. Mr Clark believes that an action can be brought against Warrington & Co., of Montreal, for the recovery of the $5,000, the value of the cheese stolen. This is the firm for which Latta bought when he first came to the Canton board, and for which he continued buying up to the last two weeks of his career in Canton War enterprise of its kind in the world. But, however that may be, Latta and the cheese have taken their departure, and it is the opinion of several prominent lawyers that there is no redress. DEATH OF VOLNEY MORRIS. ^^argumaDt the case w referee who will have sixty days ynake his report. At the last hear it would seem that no small amount of interest was being taken in tbe welfare of the defencant and the principal witness for the plain tiff, Mr. BowelL for a large number of our good and worthy ci lzrn* thronged the court chambers and the hallway leading thereto But it aeon leaked out that the counsel for Sefense bad subpoenaed many of them to impeach the witness Rowell. Counsel for the plain tiffs had a like number on hand to sustain the repu- tation of Rowell for truth and ver acity and show that his reputation had never been tarnished by false- hoods. They also had subpoenaed another batch to impeach Henry Lovejoy, the defendant When this fact was learned a grand hustle was made to secure witnesses to show that Henry Lovejoy a reputation for truth and veracity was iron bound, but before the desired number nad been carrolled, the attorneys came to an understanding that "I wul let your man's character alone if y o u let my man's alone,' so the crowd of witnesses were dismissed and what promised to be a rehash of "bad blood'" was avoided.
