NEWS FROM THE PRINCIPAL—Kim Fraser A very big thank you to the P & C on their amazing effort in organising and managing the Disco on Friday night. There were some pretty awesome dancing moves happening by the kids and the parents! Thanks also to the parents who volunteered on the night and to Mr Nematian, father of Bayan in Room 2, for helping with the sausage sizzle! Without the P & C and ongoing parent support your children would not have the opportunity for such great events. Student Leaders It is that time of the year where our Year 5‟s will present their leadership speeches to the Years 3-6 students next Tuesday. These speeches will provide information to the student body in preparation for voting on Thursday to elect 2017 Student Leaders. The 2017 Student Leaders will be announced and their badges presented to them at the final assembly on Friday 9th December. Community Celebration We will once again celebrate our wonderful school community on Wednesday 14th December. Our celebrations will begin with a family picnic where parents and family members are invited to come along and have a picnic lunch with their children under the shade of the trees on the oval. After lunch we have the end of Year Edu-Dance concert. We hope you will be able to come along and enjoy the events planned. More detailed information will be provided at a later date. After School Play We have noticed a large amount of children and parents staying after school to play on school grounds. Parents please be aware that most areas of the school are leased to external groups after school which include playgrounds, ovals and classrooms. Teachers also have after school meetings. It would be appreciated if families could please leave the school grounds straight after school to ensure that the lessees can operate within their management plans and staff can attend to their after school meetings. Road Use In and Around the School We are again experiencing quite a number of parents not supporting our school community parking rules. This has severe negative consequences for our students‟ safety. We encourage all parents to support our message of safe parking and operations on school grounds. You can do this by not parking or sitting in your car in the Kiss and Drop Off / Pick Up area at the front of the school and parking in designated parking areas at the front and back of the school. Please also be conscious of the speed limit when entering the front car park. We encourage parents to use alternative options when collecting their children e.g. walk to school, collect older students 10 minutes after the siren or allowing older students to ride to school. Your support with this is much appreciated. Our kids are precious. ANNE Tuckett (74) is often found cross-legged on the floor or in the playground when volunteering at Yokine Primary School. Since the end of 2014, Ms Tuckett has dedicated four hours a week to the school, mentoring children and helping in the library through Ed Connect Australia, an organisation that connects volunteers with children who need additional support. The Dianella grandmother said she did not mind stepping into the childrens‟ world to assist them. “I mentored a little girl who was highly intelligent but had problems at home,” she said. “You sit on the floor reading with them; it is easy for me because I do yoga. I love little children, I always have.” Ms Tuckett said it was a rewarding experience. “I have always been very welcomed here; it is like being part of a family,” she said. “You get a nice warm fuzzy feeling when you walk into a classroom and the children come running up to you.” Though she has volunteered at other libraries for 12 years, Ms Tuckett worked in the legal field before retirement. Mt Lawley MLA Michael Sutherland encouraged others to sign up to volunteer. “As a former teacher, I understand the benefits (of being) involved in the school system,” he said. “Seniors by being a positive role model can provide a wealth of knowledge that will help to improve students‟ skills and boost their confidence.” (Guardian Express)

Year 6 Day Camp On Wednesday 19th October, the Year 6s went to Point Walter Camp. We were divided into two groups and, for the first half of the day, rotat-ed through two activities. One was High Rope Climbing which was pretty challenging and a bit scary for some people. Most of us made it to the top. The other activity was Archery which we found harder than it looked. After a short break for a nutritious lunch, all the students lined up for The Flying Fox. This was so exciting and so much fun. Everyone enjoyed their time at Point Walter and had a great experience.

Japanese Last term the classes studying Japanese made and ate their own individual onigiri (rice balls) and tasted miso soup. Many adventurous eaters even tried the sour and salty pickled plums. I recently came across this project, raising funds for starving children, when photos of rice balls are uploaded http://jp.tablefor2.org/campaign/onigiri/en/. Photos of YPS students making and eating onigiri has donated $30 US or 125 meals. In addition, Stephan from Room 11 won the Year 6 Calligraphy Competition and received a $20 gift card. Thanks to Midori Sensei for helping out every week and making cooking and calligraphy possible. Andrea Kurasho Japanese Language Teacher

Assembly Another amazing assembly last Fridaywas this time performed by the talented Pre Primary and Year 1 students in Room 6. Thanks to Mrs Barry for organising this wonderful performance, it was certainly enjoyed by all. Many thanks to all the parents who came along

to support Room 6 .

This week‟s assembly will be hosted by our Pre - Primary students from PP1 and PP2, it is sure to be a fantastic show.

So come along and enjoy !!!!

FRENCH CULTURE TO LIFE !! Why not volunteer to host an international student from France next year? We have a small group of delightful French students coming to Australia for 10 weeks to immerse in local Australian culture, experience our High schools, sports, environment and life-style. All the French students are around 15 years old, speak excellent English, have their own spending money, cover all school expenses ,and we arrange all aspects of their program. They are looking forward to joining an Australian family for a short term. It‟s fun and interesting to help these young people achieve their Australian dream. If you‟d like know more, please email your interest to Rob at Inter Cultural Management on [email protected]
