Senior Parent Reminder:
Please set up your daughter’s visit to her doctor to receive her necessary immunizations for college.
These are mandatory and she will not be allowed to register for classes without them.
Next Year Course Requests – Second Review At the end of February/early March, all students will receive a printout of the courses they have selected for next school year. This is the final
opportunity to make changes before we begin building schedules for the 2016-2017 school year. All students and parents must review the
courses that were chosen and verify that they are correct before returning the form to their advisory teacher.
Dual Credit – TSI Testing for 9th & 10th Graders In an effort to increase student participation in dual credit courses, the district is requiring 9 th and 10th graders to take the TSI test. TSI stands
for Texas Success Initiative and is an interface for an exam called Accuplacer. In order for a student to take a dual credit course, she must
pass the TSI section that corresponds with the dual credit course they will be taking the following school year. TSI testing is also required for
all seniors, unless they are exempt through their SAT or ACT scores, which is the case for many of our students. Colleges and universities
require this test so that they can determine whether or not a freshman needs remedial coursework before taking the math or English courses
required for their degree. Once a student passes the TSI, the scores are good for 5 years – 9th and 10th graders will not have to take the TSI
again once they pass! Testing will take place on campus during February and March. Students will be notified of their official test date once
the campus testing calendar has been set.
Do You Know Your Child’s Digital Footprint? In recent months, we have had an increase in reports regarding student online activity that is concerning. It is important to understand the
technology that your child is using and how they are using it. Have your child walk you through the apps they have on their phone and com-
puter and show you how they are using them. Some of the apps that have become most popular do not have privacy settings that prevent the
general public from viewing what your child is posting. Many of these apps also allow anyone to contact your child through texts or open
chat groups. In addition, we are finding that students do not seem to understand that once they put something online or text something from
their phone, they no longer have control over where that information goes. Even apps and programs that allege to immediately erase what
your child posts do not prevent the other people seeing the message from taking a screenshot and keeping it to show someone else later. Our
younger students, in particular, are struggling with this issue. Please take the time to take a tour of your child’s technology and have them
show you all of the apps and programs they are using. They are building a digital footprint that will be with them forever.
