zzly Kite Day
One Monday, May 24, we are having our annual Grove Kite Day. This is a wonderful day with kites sailing in the wind around our school. Our older students will be helping our younger kids have a successful kite flying experience.
Barrington Librarians Visit Grove on Wednesday
On Wednesday, May 26, the children's librarians from the Barrington Library will visit all of our classrooms to talk about the library's summer reading program.
There will be online registration for the program beginning in June and I hope all of our students participate. In fact, last year our school won the library's trophy for the highest participation rate of their summer program. Let's win our trophy back!
The library staff has been so kind to us by allowing us to visit for book checkout on a regular basis. They also supply teachers with bags of books to support different curricular projects being completed. On Friday, June 11 at 2:00 PM, the library will be hosting children's author Marlene Malone who will be speaking about her new book The SixtyEight Rooms. Many of Grove's teachers have been reading this book to their classes, so to meet the author would be a real treat. The story takes place in the Art Institute's Thorne Room which is their miniature room collection. Two students discover how to shrink down in size to wander in the rooms. It's a great book!
Beach Day!
Friday, May 28 is Beach Day at Grove. Now that warm weather has arrived I know that the kids will enjoy dressing like we're heading out for a day in the sun.

Late Arrivals
Every day there are about a dozen students arriving at school late. Sadly majy of these kids are the same latecomers every day. Please think about how disruptive it is for teachers to catch your child up to what others are doing. Your child also misses announcements which fill kids in to what is happening at our school. So try to reset your schedule and help your child be punctual for their day. It's really important.
