INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS I. INTRODUCTION

THE ZAC-32 ZONE ANNUNCIATOR/ CONTROLLER IS A TWO COMPONENT SYSTEM COMPRISED OF A CENTRAL ZONE PROCESSOR AND A REMOTE DISPLAY/CONSOLE. THE SYSTEM PROVIDES TOTAL ZONE MONITORING AND CONTROL AT A FULL FEATURED REMOTE DISPLAY CONSOLE. THE SYSTEM IS CAPABLE OF ZONE EXPANSION IN THIRTY- TWO ZONE MULTIPLES, AN OPTIONAL REMOTE PRINTER PROVIDES A HARD COPY OF ALL ZONE ACTIVITY BY AN IDENTIFYING AUTHORIZED CODE NUMBER IN ADDITION TO TIME AND DATE.

THE REMOTE CONSOLE THE REMOTE CONSOLE CONTROLS AND DISPLAYS ALL THIRTY-TWO ZONES. THE CONDITION OF EACH ZONE IS CLEARLY DISPLAYED ON THE FUNCTIONALLY DESIGNED CONSOLE. THE DIGITAL KEYPAD IS USED TO ALLOW AUTHORIZED PERSONNEL ACCESS TO THE SYSTEM BY AN IDENTIFYING ACCESS CODE AND TO PERFORM VARIOUS SYSTEM FUNCTIONS.

ALL ZONE DATA AND ZONE CONTROL FUNCTIONS ARE TRANSMITTED TO THE ZONE PROCESSOR FROM THE REMOTE CONSOLE OVER A FOUR-CONDUCTOR CABLE. UP TO FOUR REMOTE CONSOLES CAN BE ADDED TO THE SYSTEM FOR ANNUNCIATION AND CONTROL AT MULTIPLE LOCATIONS. REMOTE CONSOLES CAN BE LOCATED IN EXCESS OF 1000 FEET FROM THE ZONE PROCESSOR. THE ZONE PROCESSOR CABINET THE ZONE PROCESSOR CABINET CONTAINS THE SYSTEM LOGIC CIRCUITRY, POWER SUPPLY AND STANDBY POWER SOURCE. ALL FIELD WIRING IS TERMINATED IN THE ZONE PROCESSOR CABINET. A FOUR CONDUCTROR CABLE CONNECTS THE ZONE PROCESSOR TO THE REMOTE CONSOLE.

II. POWER REQUIREMENTS

A. AC POWER TERMINALS 11 & 12 CONNECT THE 12 VOLT 20 VA. UL LISTED PLUG-IN TRANSFORMER TO THESE TERMINALS. DO NOT CONNECT TO A RECEPTACLE CONTROLLED BY A SWITCH.

CAUTION: TO REDUCE THE RISK OF ELECTRICAL SHOCK, DISCONNECT POWER TO

RECEPTACLE BEFORE INSTALLING OR REMOVING THE TRANSFORMER. WHEN REMOVING THE RECEPTACLE COVER SCREW, COVER MAY FALL ACROSS PLUG PINS OR RECEPTACLE MAY BECOME DISPLACED. USE ONLY A DUPLEX RECEPTACLE HAVING A CENTER SCREW. SECURE TRANSFORMER IN PLACE WITH SCREW SUPPLIED.

B. STANDBY BATTERY TERMINALS 9 (+) & 10 (-)

CONNECT THE 12 VOLT RECHARGEABLE BATTERY, TO TERMINALS 9 AND 10 WITH THE

BATTERY LEADS PROVIDED OBSERVING POLARTIY. CAUTION: BATTERY POLARITY MUST BE STRICTLY OBSERVED. IF BATTERY POLARITY IS REVERSED BATTERY FUSE WILL BLOW. REPLACE WITH CORRECT FUSE, (SOC SS2 3A), UNIT DOES NOT HAVE STANDBY POWER IF FUSE IS BLOWN. THE BATTERY FUSE IS LOCATED TO THE RIGHT OF TERMINAL 7 ON THE PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARD.

C. EARTH GROUND

THIS UNIT HAS EFFECTIVE LIGHTNING PROTECTION ONLY WHEN GROUNDED ACCORDING TO THE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS: CONNECT TERMINAL 13 TO A METAL COLD WATER PIPE OR BURIED GROUND ROD WITH NOT LESS THEN 16 GA SOLID COPPER WIRE. CLEAN SURFACE OF METAL PIPE OR GROUND ROD AND SECURE WITH SUITABLE CLAMP. DO NOT GROUND TO A GAS PIPE. NOTE: IF THE ZONE PROCESSOR CIRCUIT BOARD IS REMOVED FROM THE CABINET ALL FOUR MOUNTING SCREWS MUST BE REPLACED TO INSURE PROPER GROUNDING TO AVOID LIGHTNING DAMAGE.

IV. ZONE INPUTS (MODEL ZAC-32) THE ZONE PROCESSOR HAS 32 NON-SUPERVISED ZONE INPUTS WHICH CAN BE CONNECTED FOR NORMALLY-OPEN OR NORMALLY-CLOSED SWITCH CONTACT CONFIGURATIONS. A NORMALLY-OPEN ZONE INPUT REQUIRES A 10K OHM RESISTOR CONNECTED BETWEEN THE POSITIVE TERMINAL AND THE ZONE TERMINAL AS SHOWN.

V. ZONE INPUTS (MODEL ZAC-32S)

THE ZAC-32S ZONE PROCESSOR HAS 32 ZONE INPUTS WHICH ARE SUPERVISED WITH A 10K OHM END OF LINE RESISTOR. NORMALLY-CLOSED OR NORMALLY-OPEN SWITCH CONTACTS CAN BE CONNECTED TO THE SAME ZONE INPUT. ALL NORMALLY-OPEN DEVICES ARE CONNECTED IN PARALLEL AND ALL NORMALLY-CLOSED DEVICES ARE CONNECTED IN SERIES. THE END OF LINE RESISTOR IS CONNECTED IN SERIES WITH THE LAST NORMALLY- CLOSED DEVICE OR IN PARALLEL WITH THE LAST NORMALLY-OPEN DEVICE.

TERMINAL 1 OR 6 ON THE PRINTER INTERFACE. TERMINALS 1 AND 6 ARE INTERNALLY CONNECTED. DUAL TERMINALS ARE PROVIDED TO LIMIT THE NUMBER OF CONNECTIONS ON EACH TERMINAL. THE GREEN WIRE FROM EACH ZONE ANNUNCIATOR MAY BE CONNECTED TO EITHER TERMINAL 2,3,4,5,7,8,9,10 ON THE PRINTER INTERFACE.

VIII. AUXILIARY VOLTAGE OUTPUTS 12 VOLTS DC

THE ZONE ANNUNCIATOR HAS EIGHT SETS OF AUXILIARY VOLTAGE OUTPUT TERMINALS. EACH SET OF OUTPUT TERMINALS IS FUSED WITH A 500 MA., 5 MM FUSE, (ACC P/N SS2-5). THE MAXIMUM TOTAL CURRENT AVAILABLE FROM THESE OUTPUTS IS 700 MA. THIS TOTAL OF ALL OUTPUTS SHOULD NOT BE EXCEEDED. USE THE PROVIDED CHART TO TOTAL THE SUM OF THE OUTPUTS.

IX. EXTERNAL STATUS OUTPUTS

THE ZONE ANNUNCIATOR HAS FOUR EXTERNAL STATUS OUTPUTS. THESE OUTPUTS WILL SUPPLY 10 VDC @ 28 MA. TO AN EXTERNAL DEVICE. THE EXTERNAL STATUS OUTPUTS SWITCH GROUND WHEN ACTIVE. THE OUTPUT MUST BE CONNECTED TO THE NEGATIVE SIDE OF THE DEVICE TO BE OPERATED. ALL EXTERNAL STATUS OUTPUTS CAN BE CONNECTED TOGETHER TO COMBINE FUNCTIONS.

X. EXTERNAL STATUS OUTPUT DESCRIPTION ANNUNCIATE- WHEN ANY ZONE IS VIOLATED THE ANNUNCIATE OUPUT TURNS “ON”. WHEN THE

AUDIBLE SIGNAL IS SILENCED THE ANNNICATE OUTPUT WILL TURN “OFF”. BYPASS- THE BYPASS OUTPUT WILL TURN “ON” WHEN ANY ZONE IS BYPASSED. THE

BYPASS OUTPUT WILL TURN “OFF” WHEN ALL ZONES ARE UN-BYPASSED. THIS OUTPUT IS NOT AFFECTED BY THE USE OF THE DAY ZONE FEATURE.

LOW BATTERY- WHEN A LOW BATTERY CONDITION IS DETECTED THE LOW BATTERY OUTPUT

WILL TURN “ON”. THE OUTPUT WILL REMAIN “ON” UNTIL THE LOW BATTERY CONDITION IS CORRECTED.

AC POWER FAILURE – WHEN AC POWER FAILS THIS OUTPUT TURNS “ON”. THE OUTPUT WILL REMAIN “ON” UNTIL AC POWER IS RESTORED. XI. CONNECTING THE REMOTE DISPLAY CONSOLE TO THE ZONE PROCESSOR UP TO FOUR REMOTE CONSOLES CAN BE ADDED TO THE SYSTEM. EACH REMOTE CONSOLE IS POWERED FROM THE ZONE PROCESSOR. ALLOW 150 MA. FOR EACH REMOTE DISPLAY CONSOLE WHEN CALCULATING THE TOTAL CURRENT USED BY THE SYSTEM. THE REMOTE CONSOLE IS TERMINATED WITH AN EIGHT CONDUCTOR MODULAR CORD. AN EIGHT CONDUCTOR MODULAR JACK IS SUPPLIED TO TERMINATE THE CABLE RUN BETWEEN THE ZONE PROCESSOR AND THE REMOTE DISPLAY CONSOLE. A MINIMUM OF FOUR CONDUCTORS MUST BE USED.

IF THE CABLE RUN BETWEEN THE ZONE PROCESSOR IS IN EXCESS OF 100 FEET; SHEILDED CABLE SHOULD BE USED. THE MAXIMUM CABLE RUN BETWEEN THE ZONE PROCESSOR AND THE REMOTE DISPLAY CONSOLE IS 1000 FEET.

TWO CONDUCTORS OF THE MODULAR CORD CAN BE USED FOR A TAMPER CIRCUIT WHICH CAN BE CONNECTED TO THE N/C INPUT OF A CONVENTIONAL ALARM SYSTEM. THE USE OF THE TAMPER CIRCUIT REQUIRES A SIX CONDUCTOR SHEILED CABLE.

IF SHEILDED CABLE IS USED, CONNECT TO THE GRAY AND BROWN TERMINAL ON THE MODULE JACK.

MODEL ZAC-32 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

I. INTRODUCTION

THE ZAC-32 ZONE ANNUNCIATOR/CONTROLLER IS A TWO COMPONENT SYSTEM COMPRISED OF A CENTRAL ZONE

PROCESSOR AND A REMOTE DISPLAY CONSOLE. THE SYSTEM PROVIDES TOTAL ZONE MONITORING AND CONTROL

AT THE FULL FEATURED REMOTE CONSOLE. THE SYSTEM IS CAPABLE OF ZONE EXPANSION IN THIRTY-TWO ZONE

MULTIPLES. THE REMOTE CONSOLE CONTROLS AND DISPLAYS ALL THIRTY-TWO ZONES. THE CONDITION OF EACH

ZONE IS CLEARLY DISPLAYED ON THE FUNCTIONALLY DESIGNED CONSOLE. A DIGITAL KEYPAD IS USED TO ALLOW

AUTHORIZED PERSONEL ACCESS TO THE SYSTEM BY AN IDENTIFYING ACCESS CODE AND TO PERFORM VARIOUS

SYSTEM FUNCTIONS.

II. THE ZONE PROCESSOR

THE ZAC-32 HAS 32 ZONES. EACH ZONE IS INDEPENDENT IN OPERATION. WHEN A ZONE IS VIOLATED THE ZONE

INDICATOR AND THE AUDIBLE SIGNAL WILL TURN ON AND ZONE MEMORY WILL BE SET. IF THE VIOLATED ZONE IS

RESTORED BEFORE IT IS ACKNOWLEDGED THE ZONE INDICATOR WILL REMAIN ON.

THE ZONE PROCESSOR CONTAINS A POWER SUPPLY AND RECHARGEABLE BACK-UP BATTERY. THE AC POWER AND

BATTERY ARE MONITORED FOR FAILURE. IF THE AC POWER IS INTERRUPTED OR THE BATTERY VOLTAGE DROPS

BELOW A SAFE LEVEL THE SYSTEM INDICATORS AND AUDIBLE SIGNAL WILL REPORT THE TROUBLE CONDITION.

WHEN AC POWER HAS BEEN RESTORED THE INDICATORS AND AUDIBLE SIGNAL WILL TURN OFF.

III. THE REMOTE DISPLAY CONSOLE

THE REMOTE CONSOLE DISPLAYS AND CONTROLS ZONE STATUS AND SYSTEM CONDITIONS. THE CONSOLE

CONTAINS A DIGITAL KEYPAD, ZONE SYSTEM INDICATORS AND AN AUDIBLE SIGNAL..

A. DIGITAL KEYPAD - THE DIGITAL KEYPAD IS USED TO ACCESS AND CONTROL THE SYSTEM.

B. ZONE ANNUNCIATION - THE ZONE INDICATORS DISPLAY COMPLETE ZONE STATUS.

FLASHING - ZONE BYPASSED, OFF - ZONE SECURE OR IN A NON-VIOLATED CONDITION

ON - ZONE VIOLATED OR IN ZONE MEMORY.

C. SYSTEM INDICATORS - THE SYSTEM INDICATORS DISPLAY THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION.

DAY MODE INDICATOR ON - ALL DAY ZONES ARE BYPASSED. ACCESS INDICATOR ON - A

VALID CODE HAS BEEN ENTERED. LOW BATTERY INDICATOR ON - LOW BATTERY VOLTAGE

HAS BEEN DETECTED. POWER FAILURE INDICATOR ON - AC POWER IS OFF.

D. ANNUNCIATOR - AN AUDIBLE SIGNAL SOUNDS TO INDICATE A ZONE VIOLATION, SYSTEM TROUBLE OR

WHEN A KEY IS PRESSED.

IV. ZONE ANNUNCIATION/CONTROLLER SYSTEM OPERATION

A. ACCESS CODE - A FOUR DIGIT ACCESS CODE MUST BE ENTERED BEFORE ANY FUNCTION CODE WILL BE ACCEPTED.

ALL ACCESS CODES ARE PRESET AT THE FACTORY. A LIST OF ACCESS CODES IS INCLUDED WITH

EACH UNIT. LISTED BELOW IS THE PROCEDURE FOR ENTERING AN ACCESS CODE.

1. LOAD A VALID FOUR DIGIT ACCESS CODE. PRESS EACH NUMBER OF THE CODE UNTIL A BEEP

IS HEARD.

2. PRESS THE #,(POUND), KEY TO ENTER THE CODE.

3. ACCESS INDICATOR TURNS ON. NOTE: AFTER 60 SECONDS ACCESS IS AUTOMATICALLY TURNED OFF.

TO RESET THE AUDIBLE ANNUNCIATOR

1. ENTER VALID FOUR DIGIT ACCESS CODE, THEN PRESS #,(POUND), KEY TO ENTER

2. PRESS KEY 1

3. PRESS # ,(POUND), KEY TO EXECUTE

THE AUDIBLE ANNUNCIATOR WILL BE SILENCED WHEN KEYS ARE PRESSED. IF THE AUDIBLE ANNUNCIATOR IS NOT

RESET, THE AUDIBLE SIGNAL WILL SOUND AFTER THE LAST KEY IS PRESSED.

D. MEMORY RESET

WHEN A ZONE HAS BEEN VIOLATED THE ZONE MEMORY IS SET. IN ORDER TO MONITOR THE ZONE STATUS THE

ZONE MEMORY MUST BE RESET.

TO RESET THE ZONE MEMORY

1. ENTER A VALID FOUR DIGIT ACCESS CODE, THEN PRESS # ,(POUND),KEY TO ENTER

2. PRESS KEY 2

3. PRESS #,(POUND), KEY TO EXECUTE

THE ZONE MEMORY WILL RESET, THE ZONE INDICATOR WILL TURN OFF UNLESS THE ZONE IS STILL VIOLATED.

E. DAY ZONE MODE

THE DAY ZONE MODE IS ACTIVE WHEN THE DAY ZONE STATUS INDICATOR IS ON. ALL DESIGNATED DAY ZONESARE BYPASSED WHEN THE DAY ZONE MODE IS ACTIVATED ALLOWING FREE ACCESS TO THOSE ZONES WITHOUT

CAUSING A VIOLATION.

TO ACTIVATE THE DAY ZONE MODE

1. ENTER VALID FOUR DIGIT ACCESS CODE, THEN PRESS #,(POUND), KEY TO ENTER

2. PRESS 3 KEY

3. PRESS #,(POUND), KEY TO EXECUTE

IF DAY ZONE MODE WAS OFF DAY ZONE MODE WILL TURN ON. IF DAY ZONE MODE WAS ON DAY ZONE MODE WILLTURN OFF.NOTE: ALL DAY ZONES ARE BYPASSED WHEN THE DAY MODE IS ON.

F. SYSTEM TEST

IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT THE SYSTEM TEST BE OPERATED AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK TO CHECK ALL ZONE STATUS,

SYSTEM INDICATORS AND STAND-BY BATTERY CONDITION.

ALL ZONE AND SYSTEM INDICATORS WILL TURN ON. AC POWER WILL BE DISCONNECTED AND THE AUDIBLE SIGNAL WILL SOUND.NOTE: IF A ZONE IS VIOLATED DURING THE TEST PERIOD THE TEST IS ABORTED AND NORMAL OPERATION RESUMES. IF A LOW BATTERY IS DETECTED DURING THE TEST ALL INDICATORS ARE RESTORED TO NORMAL. LOW BATTERY WILL STILL BE INDICATED UNTIL THE TEST IS COMPLETED, THEN AC POWER AND BATTERY VOLTAGE RESTORES.

G. BYPASS CONTROL

IF A PROBLEM DEVELOPS IN A ZONE OR FREE ACCESS IS DESIRED THE ZONE MUST BE BYPASSED.

THE FOLLOWING IS AN EXAMPLE OF THE ZONE BYPASS FUNCTION:

TO BYPASS ZONE NUMBER 2

1. LOAD A VALID FOUR DIGIT ACCESS CODE THEN PRESS # ,(POUND), KEY TO ENTER

2. PRESS KEY 5 THEN PRESS ,(STAR), KEY TO ENTER
