Dawn Thompson, owner of Head- quarters Salon, volunteered her time and skills to change students—boys and girls—into mystical and magi- cal creatures with lots of bobby pins, updos and hair spray. “When one of my clients mentioned the play and how much was going to be involved, I jumped at the chance to give back to the community,” said Thompson. “It has been a lot of fun, and the kids loved the attention to their hair to compliment the elaborate costumes.” Read more and see more pictures online at www.zacharypost.com. represented baseball, honoring his favorite American League team, the Boston Red Sox. His baseball uni-form and backpiece displayed the famous outfield called the Big Green Monster of Boston’s Fennway Park Stadium.

The 2013 King, Mr. Brent Fuse-lier, represented NFL football. His regal attire was inspired by the be-loved professional Louisiana team, the New Orleans Saints. The King’s black and gold ensemble was de-signed to replicate the football play-ing field of the Mercedes Benz Super Dome and the Super Bowl trophy.

The 2013 Queen, Dr. Gwen Fuse-lier, represented the Saintsations–the Saint’s entertaining cheerlead-ers, showcasing the familiar and much-admired Louisiana emblem, a golden fleur de lis.

Court participants included Mrs. Peggy Hebert representing synchro-nized swimming. She dove into the pool in a blue multi-colored swim-suit. The costume featured a tiered wrap skirt and aqua blue feather headpiece and back piece.

Mrs. Tracy Carroll represented the sport of women’s tennis. She and her racket took to the court in a ten-nis dress and floor-length shoulder cape adorned with neon yellow ten-nis balls and black tennis rackets.

Mrs. Reagan Huckabee repre-sented the international sport of women’s soccer. A former soccer player herself, she was swathed from head to toe in black and white soccer balls.

Mr. Clif Murphy represented the gentlemen’s sport of golf. His col-

orful character reflected the many players and personalities of the game enjoyed by royals and work-ing folk alike. He entered the golf course driving a hot rod golf cart and ended his game at the 19th hole.

The 2013 board of directors en-tertained the audience as “Wild World of Sports” uniformed refer-ees. They called the wild game plays and wildly blew their whistles as guests participated in a free throw basketball contest, bowling tourna-ment and sports trivia question-and-answer challenge. These members included President Leona Benoit, Past President Wendy Elbourne, President Elect Chrisy Wilbert, Sec-retary Melanie Sullivan, Treasurer Barbara Mier and board members Tracy Carroll, Jimmy DeFranceshi, Peggy Hebert, Johnny Grimmett, Lisa Munn, Pam O’Neil, Clif Mur-phy, Kim Overstreet and Margaret Scroggs.

The evening’s entertainment was provided by Domino. Tableau light-ing was provided by Hayes Taylor and audio by Jacob Heintz. Chore-ography and pre-ball and tableau music was provided by Peggy He-bert, videography by Rick Richards, and tableau and still photography by Rhonda Gerald. The costumes were designed by Pam O’Neil and D&D of Kenner, La. and were executed by Tracy Carroll, Cathy DeFrance-schi, Peggy Hebert, Pam O’Neil and D&D. The stage set was designed by Tracy Carroll and crafted by Pat Sullivan and krewe members, while ballroom scenery was provide by Tracy Carroll, Melanie Sullivan and krewe members.

Zachary Fire and Police Host Flag Football Fundraiser for their Volunteer Programs

Firefighters, officers, detectives and other personnel from the Zach-ary Fire and Zachary Police Depart-ments will be competing in a flag football fundraiser, and all of the Zachary community is invited to at-tend.

The game is set for Thursday, January 31 at Zachary High School’s

Bronco Stadium. The game begins at 6:30 p.m. Cost of admission is $1 plus a canned good. Tickets will be sold at the entrance to the stadium on the day of the event.

All proceeds will benefit the fire and police department volunteer programs.

Danielle Font never thought that an exercise class would change more than the shape of her body, but when her Jazzercise classes in Zach-ary ceased, doors were opened that she never knew existed. “I loved my classes, so when the instructor stopped doing classes back in 2011, I had to find a new class; and I did–in St. Francisville.

After only nine months, she lost 40 pounds. “One day the instructor came up to me and asked if I had ever thought about being a Jazzer-cise instructor and doing classes of my own. I told her, ‘there is no way I can memorize the routine, but to talk while exercising and reverse it!’” Font ended up getting her certifica-tion and opened the doors last fall to her Jazzercise classes located inside The Rock Church.

“My goal all along was to bring this business back alive in Zachary because I know the difference it can make in lives through fun exercises; and Zachary is my home.”

As a certified fitness instructor Font offers classes Monday, Tuesday

and Thursday at 6:30 p.m. inside an area she leases from the church lo-cated at 20810 Plank Rd. There are flexible payment options and com-mitments are not required. For more information, email Danielle at [email protected].
