Inside Tub Components – Overflow Cap
The “overflow drain cap” must be in place to prevent water from leaking inadvertently in to
the base pan. Under normal conditions, the soap and water will not get into that area but if
conditions were right for an overflow condition, the water level or soap level would be high
enough to exit into the base pan, and trip the overflow switch and drain.

Water Level – How Does it Work?
Water Inlet Valve Flow Meter Main Control Board
Normal Fill: (3.2L / .85 gallon)
• Water Valve opens and water passes through flow meter
• Flow meter looks for 220 pulses per liter. (appx 1 quart)
• 704 pulses indicates proper fill. (220 X 3.2 = 704)
• Main Control stops fill.
• Flow rate maximum of 1 gallon per minute
Fill takes less than 1 minute. (Approximately 45- 52 seconds)

Water Level – What if ?
What if:
1) The water pressure is low? i.e. low house pressure, clogged valve, etc.
The flow meter utilizes an impeller, with two magnets, driven by water flow. When the flow
rate is less than 1/3 liter per minute, the board stops the fill cycle and an error is flagged to
the customer. (more on errors later)
a) Remember 220 pulses per liter (approx. 1 quart) is normal. (The above
scenario happens if there are less than 80 pulses in 60 seconds.)
b) 80 pulses are reached but pressure is barely above that amount. Overall fill
time reaches 255 seconds but the board did not see 704 total pulses. An error
is logged
2) The flow meter failed? i.e. no signal to main control.
Water could still enter the machine but the board would not see a signal from flow meter.
…..then what happens?

Pressure Sensor
Water Level – What if, continued ?
Introducing the “Pressure Sensor”
A pressure sensor is located in a pressure chamber in the bottom well. It measures the
pressure which corresponds to the water level in the machine. It functions like any pressure
sensor with a diaphragm and air channel with pressure.
• Reports pressure reading to board.
• Acts like a “safety” device.
• If it sees an overfill condition for 5 consecutive seconds (appx 4.7 liters / 1 ¼ gallons) it
stops the cycle and turns on the drain pump.

Water Level – Pressure Sensor
The Pressure Sensor also:
• Can add a pre-wash under certain conditions (clogged filter < 1vdc reported to control)• Can add water if a bowl has flipped over and catches some of the wash water.
• Can add time to drain. (25 seconds to max of 3 minutes)
• Works off a 5VDC circuit. Ranges from .5 - 3.5VDC. (.5 = empty 2.8 VDC = normal
3.5 = overfill ; > 4.8 generates an error) Voltages are approximate

Air Gap Flow meter
All dishwashers must have an air gap to prevent back flow.
On the side of this machine is an anti-backflow device to
prevent dirty water from being siphoned back into the water
system, such as if a vacuum develops in the water system.
As noted earlier, the flow-meter is mounted inside the air
break assembly.
The bottom assembly of the dishwasher would have to be
removed to access the screw that mounts the air-gap.
If the flow meter fails, the machine could be set for “Time Fill”
and the flow meter is by-passed. (See “Adjust Water Fill”
section in service mode)

Turbidity Sensor Removal
Machines with an “Auto” program have a turbidity sensor that measures how cloudy the water is. The
sensor comprises of an LED and phototransistor. Between these two, is the dish water. The less light that
reaches the phototransistor, the cloudier the water. The sensor is calibrated during the last rinse of the
auto program. At different points during the auto cycle, the output signal from the turbidity sensorprovides data used to determine how the program will continue (number of pre-washes, temperature,
program time, number of rinses) It only functions in the “Auto” cycle.
If the turbidity sensor fails, the machine assumes the water is “very cloudy”, which results in a longer
program time, pre-washes, additional rinses and temperature.
The turbidity sensor is located at the bottom edge of the bottom drain.
• Spread tabs on either side and pull sensor

Thermistor Removal
The thermistor is located at the front edge of the bottom drain and detects when the selected water temperature
has been reached. If the thermistor is short circuited or detaches from the circuit board, the heater is turned off.
Logic:
• Water heats 4˚ per minute. If water is not heated 40˚ in 10 minutes, the machine advances out of heat mode.
• If temperature reported exceeds 176˚ the unit advances out of heat mode.
• No time out as long as water is heating according to logic.
• Press down on tab and turn counterclockwise (NTC) 70K at room temp (70F˚ )

To Drain Pump
The drain pump comprises a 30W synchronous motor and a pump component. The directionof rotation is random, making the pump partially self-cleaning. And it can be accessed for
cleaning from inside the tub if necessary.
Note: The drain pump runs for 6-25 seconds at the beginning of every cycle. The time is
dependent upon whether a cycle ended on it’s own, or was stopped by the customer.

Flush and super cleaning cycles are designed to clean the
filters, and to sweep debris to the drain. Essentially, the desire
is to begin the pre-wash, main wash, and rinses with as little
food residue as possible.
At the end of a pre-wash, rather than just drain out all of the
water, the drain comes on for 2 seconds to drain debrisalready residing in the sump. Then the circulation pump
comes back on for 20 seconds to flush any remaining debris to
the drain. Then the unit drains out the rest of the water.
The flush will fill with around a ¼ gallon of water. The
circulation pump will come on for 2 seconds, then a 5 secondpause where the machine does nothing, followed by 2 more
seconds of circulation pump. Then the step ends with a drain.
