Transforming life through

relationships with Jesus Christ

January 2017

Evening came, and then morning; the first day. Genesis 1:5

Sing to him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy. Psalm 33:3

Like cold water to a weary soul is good news from a distant land. Proverbs 25:25

You must be born anew. John 3:7

If anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!

II Corinthians 5:17

He who was seated on the throne said, "Behold, I am making everything new!" Revelation 21:5

Nothing wrong or bad with old things. We love antiques and things that have been "passed down" to us from

loved ones. But there is something exciting about the "new", isn't there? Did you see it on the faces of the kids as

they tore away the wrappings on the gifts under the tree on Christmas morning?

The "new", the "unknown" brings excitement (and the anxiety) of new possibilities. Today doesn't have to be just

like yesterday and 2017 can be a whole new beginning for us. Do you realize that the New Year has never ex-

isted before except in the mind of God! Our Creator evidently LOVES to make new things and must have some

tremendous things in store for you in the coming days! The scripture quotes listed above are only a small sample

of the uses of the word and idea of "new things" that appear throughout the Bible. Go ahead, do a little reading,

maybe an online search of quotations using the word "new" - you'll be amazed!

And maybe that is what we really need for this New Year - a new sense of amazement and excitement for the

possibility of a new adventure and a new creation by God in our lives, our church, our community, our

world. Perhaps, no, definitely, a big part of our problems in our churches and in us Christians is that we seem to

have forgotten that GOD IS! We sing "O come, o come, Emmanuel", (God Is With Us), but live as though God

will not come when we cry out to Him!

The consistent promise of God throughout Scripture is that God WILL Come, sometimes as a "thief in the night",

often in the disguise of a loved one or a stranger, sometimes in obvious answers to prayers, and eventually, break-

ing through the clouds on a White Horse to "make all things new"! God is after all, first among many expres-

sions, The Creator of all things. Wonder what God wants to create anew in you and in me for this new year? I

don't know yet, but I do know Jesus, our Emmanuel, wants us to be born anew, not just once, but every single

day! Jesus wants us to live expecting God to do something miraculous and glorious in and through us, His hands

and feet here in this creation.

Have Hope! Take heart, Beloved of God. You have not been forgotten! Watch with me to see what God will

make with this New Year. Believe.

My love to you all.

Memorial Committee News 2017

The committee would like to just remind the membership of the ZUMC Memorial and

Endowment Policy.

Persons who are honored by memorial gifts of any amount to the Zebulon United

Methodist Church will be recorded in a Book of Memory. The Memorial and En-

dowment Committee chairman will be in possession of the book and be responsible

for keeping it current. All memorial gifts must be received through the Zebulon

UMC Memorial and Endowment Funds.

Families of the deceased may request where the funds are to be directed with the

approval of the Memorial and Endowment Committee and Board of Trus-

tees. Request to designate the funds must be made within one year from the date

of the death. If funds are not designated, after the year, they will be listed as un-

designated funds. Gift acknowledgements will be made in writing by the church to

the donors and the family of the deceased.

The Memorial Committee would like to share with the ZUMC membership the results

of the numerous gifts that have been given in memory of loved ones to our church and

how the funds were utilized in 2016.

Funds from the following memorials were donated to the Sound System, the Food Pan-

try, the Music Ministry, the UMW and the HVAC debt: Billy Bunn, Peggy Lewis, Bar-

bara Pulley, Ron Krueger, Coletta Davenport, Mary Moss, and Justine

Alger.

Sarah and Janet Eaton Funds are continuing to be used for the acolytes, as well as Alma

Doris Massey and Zyba Massey Funds are being used for landscaping.

The endowment fund that was established has been invested.

Our church is continually blessed through the memories of our deceased members by

the donations made in their memory.
