• What is ZEKE?– Product from Allen Systems Group– ZEKE is a automation package to schedule tasks.– ZEKE can run on MVS and VSE.– ZEKE has direct interface for Open Systems– Can directly schedule:

• Batch Jobs• Messages to console operator.• System commands• ZEKE commands• Manual tasks (called work center events)• VM/370 control program

• How ZEKE works– Triggers a task based on time and/or predecessors

• Same Run Date predecessor will trigger– Monitors using SMF data.

• Allows you to start a ZEKE event based on “tasks” outside of itself.• Requires care! It doesn’t care who caused the trigger.

• How ZEKE works– 48 hour clock (AKA DaySpan)

• Allows events to be scheduled into the next day.• Have to imagine today and tomorrow on one clock.• Night Shift is example (19:00 to 07:00 or 19:00 to 31:00)• 48:00 like 24:00 doesn’t exist, so 48:00 is a permanent hold.
