• 1894 – Tomáš Baťa founded a shoe factory there
• 1923 – T. Baťa elected a mayor of Zlín• population grew from 3 000 in 1894
to 35 000 in 1932• 1931 – Tomáš Baťa sold his company
to his brother Jan Antonín• 1932 – Tomáš Baťa died in a plane
crash, his brother continued in filling up their business dreams
• during the Great Depression Baťa company expanded and Zlín became the strategic headquarters of a prosperous international company
Communist ruleCommunist rule
• from 1949 to 1989 Zlín was renamed Gottwaldow after the first communist president Klement Gottwald
• Baťa´s company was renamed „Svit“
• 1990 the town got its former name Zlín
