What makes a good relationship?

Once a relationship has developed, what qualities do you think are important to ensure the relationship is happy and healthy?

What else do you think makes a good relationship?

As you get older it is more likely that you will find yourself in a relationship.

For many people, a happy, healthy relationship is one in which there is a lot of support, care, mutual respect and trust. Often the key ingredient in a healthy relationship is the ability of each partner to allow the other personal space and individuality.

Healthy relationships

Sometimes when you start seeing someone, it can be hard to balance this new relationship with everything else going on in your life.

It is important to spend time with the person you are seeing, as this is the only way to really get to know each other, and for the relationship to grow.

However, it is also important to still make time for your friends and family, and to devote enough time to your hobbies, school work and any other responsibilities you have, such as a part-time job or involvement in a sport.

The balancing act

The feelings you experience at the start of a relationship can be intoxicating. Many of you have probably had a friend who has begun a relationship and wanted to do nothing but spend time with their new boyfriend or girlfriend!

What sort of problems could this kind of total involvement in a relationship cause?

You might lose friends. You might upset your family.Your school work might suffer. You might let team mates down, if you take part in sport.

It is important with all things to get the balance right so that you can enjoy every part of your life.
