Most Sponsors have sent along additional funds to be used for a Christmas gift (typically $25) and a Birthday gift (typically $25). If you have a specific item that you want Robbinah to purchase for the child you sponsor, please indicate what you want. Otherwise, she typically chooses practical items like clothes or shoes. The past two years we have helped GMOC sponsor a wonderful Christmas party. Funds we con- tribute are used for buying food (goats, chickens, white rice, sweet potatoes, soft drinks and a Ba- by Jesus Birthday cake) The funds also pay for the tent and rental of a sound system plus balloons and some candy. Not only are the children we sponsor invited, but also their caregivers and siblings are invited. Tribal and community leaders are invited. A Pastor from a local church is invited and he tells the Christmas story and leads prayers. It is a festive day that they all look forward to. They eat, drink, sing and dance as a part of their Christmas Day tradition. For most, it is the only time they have fresh meat to eat all year. Thank You: Merle Anderson

Foundation Minute for Week of October 10

Rotary clubs around the world are always supportive of projects that truly create an impact on the lives of the people that they serve. One such project comes from the Rotary Club of Ortigas Center in the Philip-pines. They initiated a sight-saving project for children with special needs. At least 350 children were diagnosed for visual impairment, and free eyeglasses were given. In cooperation with the Asian Eye Institute these chil-dren were also pre-screened for cataracts. With improved vision, they will be able to develop their own capabili-ties to their fullest potential. In India smart canes for the visually impaired were donated. These special canes contain an attachment, which is embedded with ultrasonic sensors. They have a range of ten feet and make the user aware of obstacles from the knee up to the head. The club in India donated 200 such canes to the needy. Your contribution to The Rotary Foundation enables the visually handicapped around the world to live a bet-ter and more productive life. Thank you for giving.

AUCTION

Dear North Scott Rotarians, The 2016 North Scott Rotary Rallies for Youth event is quickly approaching! We are 28 days away!! We would like to thank our current sponsors for their generous support (please see below) If someone now wants to be a sponsor, they will still get the tickets, but recognition will be limited to the night of the event. If you know anyone or any business that would like to be a sponsor, please encourage them. We have included some information in regards to the sponsor levels and a letter about the event to use. If you would like us to reach out to someone, we would be more than happy to do so. One last note, Cody has sent to all Rotarians an email reminding you of items that you have donated or pro-cured in the past. Becky Bray and Tricia Kane are accepting items at every meeting. Please do your best to bring items in early so we can start to put together the list for the program. Last year we had well over 200 items, thanks in large part to our Rotary Club as a whole. Every donated item counts. If you are unsure of what you can donate or would like ideas on what to donate, please reach out to someone on the committee. Thanks again for all of your support in helping put on this great event! And thanks again to our sponsors! there is room for more :)

Thank You, Your Auction Committee

LAST WEEK – October 7, 2016 – Joel Youngs: Eastern Iowa Small Business Development Corp.

Patrick announced that ticket sales for the Auction are now open. He is asking for every member to “sign up” to come, so that the committee can have an accurate count of attendee’s. An ongoing list will be available each week, to avoid duplication. The committee anticipates a sell out of the 400 seats. Fifty nine attended on Friday. Doug Peterson from the Iowa Q.C. Rotary club was a guest, along with Jeff Martens, Jon Cole and former member, Margo McInnis. Margo won the 50/50 drawing of $96 and pur-chased Sheila’s cinnamon roll apple pie for $75. Thank you Margo! Joel Youngs gave a lot of interesting information about the free service he provides to counsel and ad-vise small business owners. He protects the confidentially of his clients, therefore many don’t know about his service. He helps educate them and provides workshops, forums and events for them to attend, to learn to be-come a better business owner. Jim Smith was the sergeant and collected $78 in fines. John Maxwell sold this week’s group of good-ies for $540. October birthdays were celebrated.

2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?

3. Will it build GOOD WILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? 4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
