Happy Trinity Sunday! In today's Gospel, we hear Jesus declare together all three Persons of the Trinity. "Go therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit." When we speak of the Trinity, two different theological words are sometimes used: immanent and economic. The immanent Trinity is the life of the three Persons within themselves, the inner harmonious relationship between Fa-ther, Son, and Spirit. We see this in the Gospels when Jesus speaks of his Father and promises to send the Holy Spirit. The term "economic" has its roots in the Greek word oikonomia, roughly meaning "household management." The economic Trini-ty is our three-Personed God's relationship with creation; it is creation and redemption and ongoing relationship with us. Made in the image and likeness of God, we are called to imitate God's immanence by giving and receiving love with one another in com-munity. However, this is not limited only to those close to us, though that's where love often starts. We also imitate the econo-my of God when we go out, when we ex-tend our love and care in a life-giving way. "Go therefore ?" Every believer is sent on mission. Every believer is invited to follow Jesus and the Apostles "to the nations," to the mar-gins, to the people who require a little extra reach. This could be a distant relative, the residents of your local homeless shelter or even the forgotten neighbor next door! When we love well, we create something beautiful-a relationship, a holy moment, a foretaste of heaven. This Trinity Sunday, take some time to examine the relationships in your life. How well do you love those nearest to you? How well do you reach out to those farther away? How are you creating something beau-tiful?

E-GIVING + NO ENVELOPES NEEDED

Would you find it helpful to have your offerings debited directly from your bank account as you probably do with other obligations? Our Lady of Lourdes Church offers electronic giving for those of you who wish to have contributions transferred electronically to the church’s account. Electronic giving gives you a convenient way to keep up with your intended offerings. Getting started is easy. Au-thorization forms and additional information are available on our website: www.ourladylourdes.org and at the Parish Center.

"No one has greater love than this, to lay down one's life for one's friends." Chris-tians are no strangers to sacrifice. Jesus lays down his life for our re-

demption, martyrs remain faithful to the end, and every believer faces "deaths" in the spiritual life when love requires a re-ordering of preference and priority. On Memorial Day, we honor those who laid down their lives for their nation and for the values we espouse - freedom, justice, and a better world for our children. In a day that often fills with barbeques and boat launches, remember to take some time in prayer! Intercede for those who have died and for the loved ones they left behind, and pray for peace on earth.

Dear Lord, on this day, we remember those

who have served us by protecting our freedoms. When we celebrate our long weekend

with our friends and family, help us remember, that our freedom to speak of you, and our freedom to worship you,

and our freedom to do that which we ought to do, have all been bought at the price and sacrifice

of many lives. Your Son died for our eternal life in heaven.

So too, your children died protecting us here on earth. Help us be mindful this weekend and always of the sacrifices made by those in uniform

for all our freedoms. Amen.

Why don't Catholics add the "For yours is the King-dom..." prayer at the end of the Our Father like the

Protestants do? Where did it come from? The conclusion of the Lord's Prayer that you refer to is called a doxology, which is a prayer of glory and praise. This particular doxology we do use in the Mass. After the Our Father, the priest prays the prayer that begins, "Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil..." and the people respond with the doxology. The doxology is not found in the Bible, in either Mat-thew 6:9-13 or Luke 11: 2-4, but it is very ancient. It was first found in "The Dida-che," also called "The Teaching of the Twelve Apostles," which dates probably from about the year AD 90. It was a letter of instruction to early converts to Christianity. Protestantism dates only to the sixteenth century, so the doxology is actually a Cath-olic prayer. Some scholars and the catechism (§ 2760) indicate that the doxology was connected to the celebration of the Eu-charist and was not used apart from it. Remember, both the Lord's Prayer and the Eucharist were part of the "mysteries of faith," things taught only to believers. Ironical-ly, a remnant of a prayer used during the celebration of the Eu-charist has comes to be used widely by many Christian churches that do not celebrate the Eucharist! Truth is indeed stranger than fiction!

Please note that for the Memorial Weekend Holiday the parish of-fices will be closed from Friday May 25th until Tuesday morning May 29th. In an emergency, if you need to reach a priest, call Fr. Michael on his cell phone at 585-474-3969. Have a great holiday weekend!
