    Architecture

We create buildings based on context, client and community. We believe in responsive architecture, and our work refectsan integration o image, unctionality, budget, schedule andthe principles o sustainable design. We design buildings thatulll essential social and cultural unctions and embody theideas and ideals o our clients.

Designed to t within the urban context o the Los AngelesCivic Center, the new, 491,000-square-oot Los Angeles PoliceDepartment (LAPD) Headquarters eatures both physical andmetaphorical connections to the surrounding community.Setbacks, necessary or security reasons, are captured asopportunities or integrating the site at the human scale: aone-acre park, a public art program, and a plaza relate topassers-by and engage them with the headquarters. TheLAPD Headquarters project was recognized in 2009 with theAmerican Institute o Architects presidential honor award orBuilding Team o the Year. The project has achieved a LEEDGold certication rom the U.S. Green Building Council.

    Building Engineering

Our architects partner with our building engineers, who design

the structural, mechanical, electrical and communicationssystems o high-perormance acilities. In todays increasinglycomplex physical, social and economic environments, theclose collaboration o our architectural and engineeringpractices allows us to exceed demanding unctionality, sustainability, saety and security requirements.

AECOMs Manitoba Hydro Place project in Winnipeg,Manitoba, Canada, earned the 2010 National ProjectAchievement Award rom Engineers Canada, the countrysnational engineering organization. Built as the headquartersor Manitoba Hydro, the provinces utility provider, the695,887-square-oot (64,650-square-meter) building eatures

a variety o energy-ecient technologies, including a doubleacade to reduce heating loads by providing a buer toextreme outdoor temperatures; a displacement ventilationsystem that supplies the oce space with 100-percent reshair; radiant slab heating and cooling; a solar chimney; anda geothermal heat pump system or ground heat exchange.AECOM provided mechanical, electrical and plumbingservices or the project.

Our extensive portolio oconstruction projects and experience includes perormancevenues, oce towers, hotel and gaming acilities, meetingand exhibition spaces, primary and higher educationalspaces, public transit terminals, and data centers.

At CityCenter, an 18-million-square-oot mega developmentsituated on 67 acres in the heart o the Las Vegas strip inNevada, United States, we served as executive constructionmanager overseeing construction and assisting the CityCenterteam by developing a procurement approach that resulted insignicant savings on building materials. Our proessionalsunderstand the need or cost eciency and oer our clientsa variety o delivery mechanisms encompassing traditionaldesign-bid-build, as well as alternative delivery methods suchas design-build, public-private partnerships and other turnkeyarrangements. As a third-party manager, our sta can overseeall on-site aspects o a clients project, including estimating, scheduling, design, engineering, community relations, saetyprograms, tradespeople, cost control and interaction withthe owner and architect. Around the globe and across theAmericas, we provide our clients with the expertise they needto bring their visions to lie.

    Design + Planning

We acilitate responsible, productive and artul land use.Our collaborative approach integrates strategic planning, environmental and ecological planning, masterplanning and

urban design, and landscape architecture to create exemplaryenvironments. Our range o expertise enables us to create lastingvalue or our clients and their communities, whether or detaileddesigns, physical plans, policy rameworks or public consultation.

AECOM has been deeply involved with Washington, D.C.sevolving public realm. Our National Capital Framework Planbuilds on Pierre LEnants original vision, embracing the 155memorials and 74 museums developed since the late 1700s,guiding the citys physical evolution through 2050. Linkingback to the city core along LEnants grand axes, the planexpands and develops institutional, museum, exhibit, openspace, memorial and monument sites, moving them rom theincreasingly cluttered National Mall to various other locationswithin the city. AECOMs involvement included establishingand rening principles, goals and objectives, and preservingand enhancing the citys landscape development, combininghistoric visions with anticipated realities.

    Economics

We perorm quantitative and qualitative market conditionassessments as they impact our clients proposeddevelopment projects. We help our clients rene their ideas, and work with planners and designers to inorm the economicsuccess o projects. We also assess projects socioeconomicimpacts and shape plans that build economic resilience andoster social equity.

The Four Seasons at Hualalai resort on the Big Island oHawaii is one o the most successul resorts to open in recentyears. We completed more than 10 assignments regarding

market and nancial potential or Hualalai. During the early1990s, we were instrumental in persuading Kajima to shitrom a high-density/high-rise resort concept to the ultra-upscale, lower-density resort concept that was ultimatelyselected. Our ollow-up studies or Hualalai indicate thatbuyers responded avorably to Hualalai because the resortsimage and amenities were careully crated to match buyersdesires. We identied and thoroughly documented this clientinput through a series o market analyses, ocus groups andpersonal interviews.

    Energy

At AECOM, our energy proessionals are catalysts or achanging industry. With a ocus on today and a vision or theuture, we seek out energy rom the cleanest and mostecient sources. We are experts in transmission anddistribution and develop plans that incorporate wind andsolar energy; hydropower and dams; and thermal, geothermaland nuclear energy.

When Caliornia State Universitys San Bernardino campusin the United States was looking to expand while cutting itsenergy use, the chancellors oce turned to AECOMs energy

experts. With insight into eciency and carbon management,we worked with the university to develop and implement anambitious plan that included adding two 1,200-ton chillers, a1-million-gallon chilled water thermal energy storage tankand a 2,400-ton cooling tower. These innovations saved thecampus US$1 million in energy costs during the rst year and were recognized by the Association o Energy Engineersas the 2009 Energy Project o the Year.

For example, in Chile, we are teaming withFundacin Chile, a nonprot organization, and CelulosaArauco y Constitucin, the countrys largest orestproducts company and a world leader in sustainable orestmanagement. The project will assess Araucos currentcarbon ootprint, and the company will use the results as a

benchmark to reduce emissions in Chile, Brazil and Argentina.

With projects that range rom transportation, chemical andelectric power, to government, manuacturing, oil and gas, ourexperts are leading the way, helping industry and governmentprotect Americas resources or years to come.

    Government

Planning, design and support services are at the oreronto our capabilities in government services. By working withgovernments and their agencies, we are driven to improvethe quality o lie and support economic growth acrossthe Americas.

In the United States, our proessionals have partnered withthe U.S. government on renovations at the Pentagon and otherkey Department o Deense acilities, in addition to the designo ederal buildings and the maintenance and modication oaviation and ground systems or the U.S. Air Force. Backedby the global resources o a multinational rm, and withexpertise in planning, design, operations and maintenance, logistics, aviation services, security, environmental and civilengineering, and intelligence and mission support, our teamcontinuously works to strengthen the capabilities ogovernments across the Americas.

Our work in emerging markets, including South America and

the Caribbean, enables governments, communities andbusinesses to design and implement successul developmentprograms that propel economic progress and help alleviatepoverty. Our experts use their insight and capabilities tocreate greater opportunities or these developing nations.
